    Hi I have not used my xb1 for a couple of months. Turn it on a needed a update ok cool. Then I get a message saying the console is overheating. I have had it vented as it is sitting on my pc desk and there is not anything around it. Need some help please

    Update bricked my console

    Sounds like you have a faulty console... or you are trolling. the only two threads you have made are this one and how your console overheated why playing forza. so if you are telling the truth, it may be because your console is faulty in some way. maybe the overheating issues are causing more internal problems. sorry to hear.

    Overheating

    First off I would suggest holding the power button down for 8 seconds till the console fully shuts down, and unplug the console for 30 seconds. It's always nice to do a hard reset just to ensure you're starting with a fresh slate.

    If you haven't used it in a couple months there may be some dust buildup. I would suggesting using a Swiffer brush or a microfiber cloth and see if it catches any dust in the vents. Don't try and force the cloth into the vents, just gently go over them.
    PLEASE make sure you are using brushes or clothes that are static free.

    Also, the the Xbox One fan is a ball bearing fan. DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR. Cans of compress air can be very dangerous to these fans, if you hold the air on it for too long and cause it to spin up past it's threshold you can damage the fan. I know it sounds
    silly to think that, but from experience just a few seconds of compressed air is enough to make a small PC fan sound like a circular saw. Also, DO NOT USE A VACUUM to clean it. This can build static and also cause damage.

    Make sure your console is in an open area so it gets plenty of air flow, attempt to clean it with a static free cloth, and if you are still experiencing issues with overheating your best bet is to send it in to Microsoft for repairs.

    See if your console is overheating? Probably hardware issue causing it to overheating and it forces a restart.
