    Overall bad product.

I bought the XBox 1 for Christmas. I previously owned the original XBox and the 360 and loved the platforms (really, really, really, LOVED them). I will no longer purchase any Mi¢ro$oft products. The overall quality and the inability to play the games when
I want to play is the problem. Every time I put a disc into the tray it has a 20 GB+ update. Are all games shipped unfinished these days? If so, I will probably be playing the last video games on a new system, ever. Do you guys think everyone has Google Fiber
with unlimited data? I really enjoyed playing Gears of War with my youngest daughter, now it's completely impossible without planning to download and putting in an appointment on the schedule and pray to God some **** doesn't add more code. I just don't understand
anymore. Unless something changes I will let my Gold Expire and I will never give a another penny to you. Not a threat just a fact.

    :)

  2. WTF!

    Batsman

It's a bad design + bad overall strategy = very very bad product

I really don't see how E3 can save them, the machine itself is the problem at this point.

I'm afraid that you are going to find whichever platform you choose to game on subject to large patches. It's not just a Microsoft issue. Nintendo are the best of the bunch but patch sizes are creeping up all the time there as well.

Gamers are to blame, they let developers steamroll them, and they always come back to buy more. If gamers put up a fight and stopped supporting devs that release unfinished games, well there you have it. Gamers are out in droves PRE-ORDERING every new game,
thus giving devs every incentive to keep doing what they do "business as usual".

"The overall quality and the inability to play the games when I want to play is the problem."

According to my dictionary (it's a book or tome filled with WORDS and their meanings), quality is defined by "how good something is" and is generally used in a positive manner. I've read your post and there appears to be no complaint with the system itself,
so why is it an "overall bad product"? It's a fact of life that modern gaming relies upon patches and updates, so if you don't have the time, patience or internet bandwith for such things, then you should probably choose another hobby.

Xb1 games seem to have large updates, this is a given since day 1. For the 1st time in 6 months I've plugged my XB1 in (moving house), updates and game updates didn't take a great deal of time, I'm playing Cod WAW within an hour. It's not that bad at all
and the software has improved allot, I can understand that you want to play games right away, with a bit of patience you'll see that the x1 is indeed a great console. It's pointless getting too upset over, try updating a fresh copy of elder scrolls on line
Tamriel if you really want to suffer Overall bad product. ;)

  9. Games requiring day one patches is one thing, but consoles requiring you to go online, create a MS account and then dl console updates just to, whether you 'go offline' or remain online, just to be able to actually use said console for playing ANY type of
media (games, dvd's blu ray movies etc) is another.

So, no. It's NOT devs, but rather MS.

Borderlands the handsome collection is a prime example. For one console the update for borderlands THC is some 8GB, while for the X1 it's around twice the size.

Now, get this. They upgraded my wireless box to allow 5G networking and i've yet to see anything dl faster on the X1 than what I had with the old 2.4G wireless box, even though I went from 15 mbps to over 60???

Something's just not kosher. But if you ask TWC, (now Specturm) they say it's MS "SYSTEMS" and I'm inclined to believe em.

Another elephant in the game/patch size room:

Gamers have been pushing (demanding?) for better graphics, better surround audio, and huge playable gaming worlds to explore. Do they expect the devs to magically stuff all that into a 100 MB package? I advise anybody who still has "dial-up" internet specs
to stay away from current gen.

  11. Not true.

It wasn't gamer 'pushing' but rather competition from devs and console/PC manufacturers/3rd party electronic support such as AMD, Intel, Nvidia etc. Example... No-one held a gun to say, MS's head and forced them to R&D either console nor dev games for them.
Like everything else, the almighty $ was the deciding factor in "pushing" - "better graphic, surround audio, and huge gaming worlds" in an albeit vain effort to some to puch the technology otherwise known as gaming.

Gamers had nothing to do with devs releasing games needing "day one patches" either. That fumbling of the ball is entirely on the devs, not the gamers.

As for the rest... Dialup lead to DSL, Cable net and now wireless data cell phones. In a perfect world, there wouldn't any such thing as data caps on either, but we don't live in that age. So next time you see an OP complaining about "update sizes" etc.
May I suggest remembering back to the days of 26k and how tech as well as companies like AOL and Earthlink was championing 56k and how long it took to get from there to here.

    Just a suggestion!

  12. As far back as the Nintendo 64, my memory gets fuzzy before that, the companies were advertising their consoles on their new graphical prowess. Yes even Nintendo were pushing how great their new games look.

So can it really be surprising that after years of being told by the video game companies that you should want their new console because of how great it is going to make games look, that people actually expect them to keep that promise.

There are certainly people who take it to the extreme, but I can't feel sorry for the video game companies because they created the problem in the first place and now they are having to pay the price.

Right, for the final time (check my posts people, I've typed this over and over and over)

If you are not happy with updates for games you have two options, put your console into "instant on mode" this will download updates as soon as they are available, even when the console is switched off.

If you don't want to do that then you should either stop playing games or buy a Nintendo Switch because ALL GAMES HAVE UPDATES. The PS4 is just as bad as the Xbox One for HUUUGE updates, the only other console is the Switch, and although it still has updates,
    the updates are much smaller.

  14. I have purchased a couple of games recently that were 50% of full game download in just patches - so yes something is strange here.

Ubisoft Division(16 GB patch) and Ghost Recon(8 GB day one patch, a week later 8 GB again) are two of them. This is the police another, but still full game is 4 GB so at least doable.

Don't know if MS changed terms for vendors to ship updates - so they cumulated every update ever into the same for every user - not sensing what needs to be updated.

That vendor need to pay so much more to ship updates that they make one huge update for everybody.

Not all are like this though, just a couple of the ten I bought for X1, what I mentioned above.
