Over the Air Tuner for the U.S. and Canada

Yay! Wait... What!? Don't we already get that through, you know, TV?

Is this redundant, awesome, or both (or n/a) to you?

I'm split on this because I already get it through my own home antenna, making it redundant, but to be able to put it through the XB1 and not have to change inputs, as well as have it show up in the guide, AND have live pause and rewind up to 30 minutes,
sounds awesome! As someone who doesn't have access to cable, this sounds like a wonderful compromise IMO.

What's your take on this?

Over-the-Air Broadcast Connection to Xbox One - How?

Here is a link on the OTA tuner that you're asking about. So far as I know it is only available in the US and Canada and is a Hauppage tuner.

Any other tuner (whether it works or not) is a 3rd party tuner and is not covered by Xbox nor is there information on them.

Xbox one guide, good improvement for canada but does not cover Ota (over the air). So for me it is not working. Still dreaming of the service ofered in the u.s. Where OTA is coverred by one guide.

Interesting. My question is if I bought a TV antenna with just the HDMI end, canceled my cable, and plugged the antenna into the port that my cable box was using, will it work properly?

The Xbox One is really making me consider cutting the cord once and for all. With this announcement and the addition of Sling to the other entertainment apps, its getting very enticing.

Remind me why am I paying a cable company for anything other than a broadband connection?

 

I'm getting one. There are channels that come though your cable that are free and unencrypted. Which means as long as they don't fully disconnect your cable, you can hook up your cable to the T.V. adaptor and get free H.D. channels without a cable box.

Hauppauge WinTV-955Q I got it from Amazon. Had a gift card. I used to have a HomeWorx box before but it died and never bought another one. So hoping this is better since it's straight to the system

 

@D33dles - Most cable companies stopped allowing that over a year ago and encrypt all channels now.

With no DVR or recording capabilities, this is pretty much useless for me. Still waiting for MS to add media center extender functionality to the X1 so it could actually compete with the 360 as a true all-in-one media device.

 

I plan on getting the adapter hopefully soon.

Earlier today a thread I made in the general disscussion forum recieved a post with a link that 360 preview members would get external HDD support which would soon also be coming to all, and now this!

I couldnt be happier for Xbox fans. Yet I suspect that even more great news is coming our way.

Hope they live stream Xbox E3 coverage via the 360 again this year. As I for one wouldnt want to miss it.

I only use OTA along with Netflix and Hulu so I think its great we finally get it here in US

Can you give a review of the Hauppauge WinTV-955Q when you get it and have time? I was wondering how it is working for you. I also had the Homeworx and it died on me (The USB for the external hard drive crapped out) and started losing
channels. The built in tuner on my Samsung TV got much more channels. But I really want to be able to use the One Guide. You can post it here or private message me. I would super appreciate it.
