Over heating crashes but Xbox not over heating

I just got to a point in the MW3 campaign where my Xbox turns off during a cut scene when I turn it back on I get the over heating message. MW3 puts me right back into the cut scene and it crashes again at about the exact same spot. My Xbox is on my dresser plenty of space around it, no dust in the vents and not hot to the touch. I have had issues with other game as well so I will list those next starting with last night I was finishing MW2s campaign. I only had the last mission to go and right as it was about to finish the cut scene and give me control the Xbox turned off. Restart and the over heating message. The night before when I quit playing I let that same cut scene finish before quiting the game and it didn't crash. I checked to see if it would crash again and it did so I went to mission select chose the previous mission and played through that mission again and sure enough I was able to play the last mission after that as it just played trough the cut scene gave me control and let me play the mission no problem.

I have been having an issue with Madden 24 where playing MUT I check what the daily missions are in the different passes and if I go straight into a Solo Battles game right as it shows me the 3 cards of the first team my Xbox turns off. Turn back on and i get thr the over heating message. This is repeatable if you do the same actions but if I restart Madden and without checking the passes go straight to a SB game I can play no problem also if after checking the passes if I go and play a solo challenge then I can go into a SB game without a crash. This seemed to be fixed during the Most Feared part of season 2 but with the update that happened after that the problem is back.

On Diablo 4; I have been playing sense release no problems until the hot fix after the start of season 2. I loaded into the game and as I tried to bring up the map my Xbox turned off. Again, over heating message displayed on restart. Load back into D4 and try to bring up map, crash. Restarted again but this time left the city without trying the map and no crash. Played for like 5 minutes traveling to a different city and opened the map no crash played for the rest of the night no problem. On over heating issues at all. Played for 4 maybe 5 hours.

Now I have had 1 other issue and that was with NBA 2k23. Up until experiencing this issue I had played 2k23 almost every night for 5 months without any issue from season 2 all the way through I think season 5 or 6 and when what ever season this issue popped up in I just stopped playing because Diablo 4 had released and i decided to just play that. Anyway, I only played in the My Team mode on 2k23 and I started having issues where I would go into a challenges game and randomly at some point in the game the game would crash. The difference being that my Xbox would not turn off, 2k23 would just stop and kick me to the Xbox dashboard. I would however get some message about over heating. Every time I checked and my Xbox never felt hotter then it did normally from the first day I got it. (It's a launch day Series X by the way)

The 2k one was really weird because I would turn my Xbox on load up 2k and go straight into one of those games and it would crash within 5 mins but I could play the other game types like Domination, Clutch Time and Triple Threat all night without issue and even after having one of those quick crashes on 2k I remember going ok I'll just play something else and loading up Diablo 4 and playing all night.

So this is my problem right now and I don't know what to do. I don't see how my Xbox could actually be over heating if it never changes temp to the touch and I can go back into games after and never have an over heat again as long as what triggered the shut off doesn't occur such as starting a SB game after having the pass screenes up or opening the world map before leaving that one town in Diablo 4, by the way after leaving and being able to open the map in a different area I was able to return to that town and open the map. All of this leads me to believe that there is a software issue that either triggers a shut off security code in the Xbox firmware or there is an issue of the fan not ramping up when it's supposed to because of something in the software code. I hear the fan all the time change speeds depending on the need for cooling and it seems that often time when these shut offs happen the fan isn't running as fast as it should be. I especially notice this with Madden where as I have said going into a DB game after checking the passes, only if it's the first game I should mention because if I have completed any game I can go into the pass screenes and come out and play a SB game without problem it's just if the SB game is the first game I try to play each day, the fan doesn't seen to be on high when loading into the SB game but it immediately is on high when entering any other game and then the SB games after it has been on high for some other game.

I hope all this makes sense to everyone and someone can help me with my issue or if it's more common then just me maybe Xbox and the game developers can figure out what's wrong.

    :)

Over heating crashes but Xbox not over heating

    Hello TJ Moose,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Based on the information you have provided; it seems like there may be a software issue causing your Xbox to shut off and display the overheating message. I recommend trying a few troubleshooting steps to see if they help resolve the issue.

Use or move your Xbox Console to another socket.

Try to move the console to another socket.

Or move the console to a new location and see if issue persists.

Try clearing the cache on your Xbox

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds until it turns off, unplugging the power cord from the back of the console, waiting 10 seconds, and then plugging it back in and turning it on.

    Update Xbox Console.

Make sure your Xbox is up to date with the latest system updates for OS version: 10.0.25398.2538.

You can check for updates by going to Settings > System > Updates & downloads.

Factory reset your Xbox and keep all games and apps:

If the issue persists, you may want to try a factory reset of your Xbox.

This will erase all data and settings on your console, so be sure to back up any important data before proceeding.

To do a factory reset, go to Settings > System > Console info > Reset console > Reset and keep my games & apps.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be a hardware issue and you may need to contact our live support for further assistance.

    Sincerely,

    Xbox over heating

    Hello Drnoam,

If the console is in fact overheating, we recommend getting it repaired if possible. You do have a few options when it come to this. You can see if there is a local Microsoft store to take it into. You can go to

    device support
and set up a repair there. If the console is in warranty this would be the best option. If it has started overheating it will only get worse. You can check this link out for

    position of the Xbox
. Also if possible get a can of compressed air and blow the dust out of the console.

    Thanks,

    Brad

Are you using a plug board for power and does it have or are you using any surge protection. They can mess your Xbox up.
