That sucks for Australian gamers. They said the developer must tone it down with the violence and drug use.

That's a pity for you. I can't wait for this game.

@Th3 Tater What are you talking about? You can buy Outlast in Australia. It's not banned at all. Those laws were overturned a few years back.

It only sucks if you're an Australian who's planning to buy the Aussie or resubmitted version - which will excise the aggregious content. I've been down this road before, when one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE franchises got a kick up the **** for advocating "drug
use" (ie, Saints Row IV). As a result, the local or edited version omitted an entire mission in which Kinzie and the Boss got high (although you still earned the cheevo for Kinzie's loyalty mission even though you technically failed it).

Luckily, because Xbox One games are region-free, there's no need to rely on whatever garbage is deemed 'sanitary' for the local market. I imported the US version, got high with Kinzie and took a bunch of screenshots to delight in the fact! Since that Gamespot
link mentions a "physical" product comprising all released Outlast content, I'll obvs. be taking that route. But shhh, don't tell anybody!

 

Yeah there are easy ways around it I suppose, but I'm just surprised it's banned. I haven't played it obviously and I'm not familiar with Austrailian censorship, but still, it's just a game.

I wouldn't give a who-ee about Outlast 2. I'm surprised the New Zealand government didn't ban it too. Bluswirl come over to NZ. Our countries are practically neighbours with only like a 2 hour time difference and we share the same seasons (currently autumn
for us).

I remember when Halo 4 came out, it was rated M. 2 Days after it launched, the NZ Government decided to R13 it, and lots of customers got mad about it since in order to sell R rated disc games in NZ, you legally must have the R Classification sticker. It
also means under 13 year olds can't just buy it without a grown-up or their parents permission. Also if you're a NZ citizen, you can live school and work in Australia indefinitely without needing a visa. Totally different story for Americans though.

I better say something about my PC for Goth since she's here. My custom desktop PC has faulty RAM and GPU both under warranty, so am getting my RAM replaced and GPU refunded for an EVGA GTX 1070 SC GPU. I got it all from a special NZ company which lets you
choose what you want in your PC and they assemble it and test it all for you.

At least we can gloat we get better legislative consumer protection rights over here. Have a happy weekend peeps.

News Flash! No suckage for Australian gamers! The classifications board will *not* be banning Outlast 2 and it will be released UNEDITED, one day after the global launch! Woo!!

Oh wait... NOBODY updated this thread since I did, so once again I'm going it alone (won't be the first time I've scared myself silly, but after delving deep into the woods of Resi VII, Outlast 2 has a lot to live up to). Really looking forward to how down
and dirty this one gets, considered that it was ALMOST banned in Oz! The current Official Xbox Magazine opens its news section with a four-page 'autopsy' of the controversy, and how Red Barrels (the developer) had to resubmit code "because the alpha contained
a video file that was not representative of the final game", thus resulting in a R18+ rating down under.

I've played some shockers in my life (including the original Outlast, which left me curled up in the fetal position), so I'm more than prepared for this! #PrayForMe

 

I'm getting it and just like Resi 7 it will sit on the shelf for a while. For some reason I don't let myself play more than 1 game at a time. Once I'm done with Sniper Elite 4 I'll change to a new game.

 

Well, it's not my place to dissuade you, but Resi VII has definitely raised the bar for these things! Outlast 2 was scheduled to ship Q4 last year - and it SHOULD'VE - because by contemporary standards, and especially after the descent into madness that
was the Baker household, this one is struggling to maintain my attention. I've just come off 100 hours of unbridled spacefaring (Mass Effect Andromeda), after which I'd promised myself I'd finish up GR Wildlands, another ticket to open adventure.

By comparison, Outlast 2 takes away *any* safety net (ie, guns or defenses) and plops you straight into an endless night of trial and error, made *so* much worse by the fact you're meant to be keeping tabs on recordings (or logbook entries) which are the
only way to keep track of what's supposed to be happening! You know your enthusiasm has seriously waned for something when you're constantly checking your log for missed entries instead of - you know - being SCARED senseless!

I expected so much more from this game, but sometimes the weight (or, in this case, wait) of expectation does not add up. Unfortunately, I'm shelving Outlast 2 until I'm in the mood for it.

 

Wow, I remember some time ago you said you weren't that interested in RE7 because you were more interested in this game. I'll take your advice and go through RE7 first, but I will still get this game. Do you think I should play this first as not to have
my impression not as good after RE7?

 

Yes brandiesel, that is the way to go! Can't fault the production values for Outlast 2 - it's at least a match for the multimillion dollar efforts from Capcom (and that's saying something for the lil Red Barrels that could) - but c'mon, you *cannot* in any
shape or form DEFEND YOURSELF? You're meant to uphold your camera at all times (in case you miss some essential part of a recording), but when push comes to shove, you must continually hunker down in BARRELS (of all things) to hide lest you get murderized
again and again until you figure out the safest way to proceed.

Of course, I had to choose Nightmare or some such (second highest difficulty) and this actually increases enemy count while depriving you of batteries for your (sanity-preserving) torch. If we're comparing dried husks of apples to oranges, you'll certainly
get your money's worth of frightful moments in this game, but up against the superior gameplay of Resi VII (whereby you get to accrue a stash of weapons and whatnot), Outlast 2 loses something in the translation.

But then, I've only experienced a handful of chapters... maybe it goes to some *truly* dark and disturbing places, but so too does Resi. IMO, play this one first and give us the 411 when you're done.
