    Out with the old!

When millions of people keep buying these same games, then they are going to keep making them. COD is essentially the exact same game over and over again with new maps and how you set up your classes this time as opposed to last year. But yet, people still
buy it...so developers are going to keep making it. Popularity of a title will always trump everything else because its whatever is making the money the easiest way.

Why Alan Wake is not even penciled in for the XBOne i will never know.

Your lucky day, I will tell you why!

"In May 2013, a new game by Remedy was announced at the Xbox One event called
    Quantum Break
, before explaining the following day that a sequel to
Alan Wake had been postponed. Despite their love of the property and initially beginning work on a sequel, Alan Wake was not financially successful enough to receive the funding they needed to continue developing the sequel at the time.[126]"

As a huge Gears fan I'm absolutely stoked there is another one coming and hopefully with a new developer mixed with one of the original creators we'll get something truly special.

I get what you are saying though with regards to old franchises but sure fire hits help bring in money for new ideas.

Also MS is bringing a heap of new IPs already so I have no issues personally.

The new Uncharted is in the same boat for me as I love that series too and can't wait to play that!!!

I think there are good examples of both GG. GTA being a good example of the "3-5 years" range and CoD and AC being good examples of annual releases. Until GTA5, it was CoD:BO2 holding the fastest selling records, so I guess it goes to show
that both tactics work and can be just about equally succesful. But I guess not all games can be made annually, such as GTA most likely or they would have to tone down the scale a lot but that probably wouldn't be good for business. The CoD crowd probably
like their new maps and slight alterations to game mechanics every year Out with the old! :p

[/quote] If they bring out AC titles like Blag Flag which I feel is executed brilliantly every year I will not complain it was probably the best game I have played on the Xbox One. I agree with what you and GG are saying and there are good examples out there
like COD that makes tons of money every year. Right now though I think it is drying up and long may that continue to dry up until they re-vamp the franchise.

Can't fault them (the devs) for that...even if we are sick and tired of CoD. Gears on the other hand, if it's done well, I'll buy in.

I've only played it at a friends place and I don't really like the pirate setting, but I did mention the same in an earlier message. Black Flag is an exception to the series. Pretty much all of them have been a bit meh annual rehashes after the original
one, but Black Flag is indeed something that breaks the mold. I hope they can keep it up in the following games too.

I remember myself saying Gears Of War wouldn't die after 3 i was right. Microsoft will never give up on a cash cow like GOW or Halo. It's just not going to happen, it's a real shame as Microsoft are turning into the Macdonalds of gaming. The same old
recycled stuff again and again. Why Alan Wake is not even penciled in for the XBOne i will never know.

I agree with PUDDIN DAGGER, at least to a certain extent. Although I think you're right that not releasing a franchise every single year is a good thing from a consumer point of view as it helps build hype and anticipation, it may not be from a developer
or publisher's point of view. Think of it like this - could a publisher make more money making a new game every year than if they made a higher quality one only every 3-5 years? I'm fairly certain nobody can really answer that question unless you're some sort
of market analyst like Michael Pachter or something. In any case, you'd still be guessing & I think it also depends largely on just how popular a particular franchise really is.

Hey I would love to see certain things redone. In another thread some one mentioned the strike series. If you don't know, it was a helicopter game on the sega that was payed in top down view almost like a strategy game. It was a great franchise. But they
are rehashing the same franchises and while some still succeed, like gta5 (haven't played it personally) most of the time it's just a money spin because they know it will sell. Look at resident evil. It's nothing like it was originally. To me they wrecked
that game when they went to 3rd person view. I loved first and second one where it was all wired camera angles. If they went back to that I'd be happy. But the way it is. They need to let go of that franchise. But I can almost guarantee there will be another.

To true burst axe. Perhaps I am just bored of the old titles. But I also feel that game companies in general these days take a lot less risk than the used to. There were periods last year when the only thing coming out were sequels. No new IPs at all. Anyway
I guess time will tell if these games can last or if they get relegated to being "Oh great another one" titles.

I understand the dollar value behind it all and like I said it's a personal thing. But I think rehashing a franchise over and over takes away from what the game was. It's not just games. It's really noticeable in tv and movies as well. Like I said. Cod was
once a AAA Rated game that to most now has become stagnant. Not because it's crap. Just because it's been done too many times. And really, as much as I love playing battlefield 4, in reality it's just more battlefield. Actually personally I think that game
is on it's way down as well. After Bad company 2 it just hasn't had quite the same appeal.
