What type of gift cards are you referring to and what are you hoping to do with them?

I apologize for not answering your other question. As for adding more gift cards to the account, were you only signed into to your son's account on the Xbox when you added the gift card? If not, try signing out on all other accounts on that Xbox before
adding the gift card. It shouldn't matter, but worth trying.

You can't buy a gift card with funds in your Microsoft account balance. That would be essentially buying a gift card with a gift card. You would need to buy a game or other content in the store and use your account balance as the payment method.

They don't have the option to redeem anything other than various gift cards. You would have to redeem enough gift cards to pay for a console and then buy it.
