  1. OS software fix dimming screen (redoing the OS required)

I think I may have found the issue with the screen dimming while watching videos. It involves the Kinect and the X360 imulation of the older game console. The only true way is to bring back the gestures and have the X360 software on a separate boot partition
on the X1, where the OS purposely asks to reboot under the 360 OS when playing the 360 games.

    1. The gestures were used to keep the system awake and not have it go to a screen saver if no activity was seen by the controller. (the 360 did sleep, but did so if no internet card was active and being used.) The sensitivity with gestures was much higher,
where the smallest movement was detected and recognized as it needing to be active. It also activated the IR for controller syncing (which is no longer there).

    2. The OS also needs to have a boot selection at startup (similar to what Mac does with Boot Camp where it asks whether MAC OS X is booted or Windows 8 or 10)

where the user decides what OS needs to be booted and run.

I have not tried disabling the Kinect and unplugging it, but that also may resolve the screen dimming issue. I don't know if the screen dimming issue is limited to those with the Kinect, or also present on consoles without the Kinect. If people have not
seen this with consoles without the Kinect, I suspect it may be Kinect related. If people without the Kinect also have screen dimming, then it is software related.

    :)

    Screen Dims while watching Vudu/Netflix

    Hey everyone.

Sorry to hear about the trouble with the screen dimming in Netflix. To check does this happen with any other apps? To look a bit more into this, can you clarify if you're using a Kinect sensor and which OS version your Xbox One is on? Also, can you clarify
which power mode you have your console set to?

    Thanks!

  3. Microsoft Denies Kinectless Rumor

I think this is an example of Chinese whispers. I have not seen anyone say the OS is built into Kinect. More that Kinect is built into the OS or is a required device by the OS.

Sofar the only thing I see that depends on kinect is Microsoft and perhaps their best friend the NSA

    Console wont boot up

I can't access the troubleshoot screen by doing the bind and eject method, not can I see what OS I'm running to do the offline update. Is there a way to just redo the OS completely?

    Loving my new paperweight!

When the always on requirement was first removed it was understandable that an internet connection would be required to patch it out, the consoles were already manufactured and on warehouse shelves.

Why however with the consoles manufactured years later has the software on them not been updated to include the patch by default?

Probably because there are monthly updates to the OS? I am guessing here, but pretty sure current on the shelf boxes don't come with the exact OS version as on first day release...
Yet they still require the day one patch to remove the internet requirement. So it begs the question of why has it not been included if other aspects of the system software has been updated.

XBOX ONE GPU? What is it? Where is everyone getting these specs

Also MS will optimise the software over time so you will probably find the OS isn't as bloaty in years to come and may well not require the 3gb ram at all. There is probably room for manoeuvre here.

Hey there Lizzy! You may need to redo the connection between the console and PC now that it's a new OS. Try that out and let us know if it helps, thanks!

I also had this issue when accepting the update for Ryse. Completely unacceptable OS design if this is required for every patch that comes out. I was expecting that the 'always on' state of the XB1, that the patches would be delivered in the background
and be completely seamless. HA !! Definitely needs to be fixed with an OS update.
