    Original xbox power issues

Hi. My original xbox won't power on. But if I keep my finger on the power button it sounds like it's trying to boot but no sound or video comes through. Then if I remove finger rot just dies. Any ideas?

    :)

It sounds like there's a problem with the internal power supply built into the console. If it fails to boot it's probably not POSTing right which could be the reason why it seems like it starts up but doesn't fully turn on.

    Hi there,

We appreciate you reaching out to us with this issue. We remind users to plug their consoles directly into wall outlets and never into a surge protector or power strip as this can damage the console. We recommend starting a
    repair for this issue.

    Original xbox power issues

    Hello Dear User

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are having trouble on original Xbox, and I understand your confusion.

It sounds like your original Xbox is experiencing a power supply issue or possibly a faulty power button. There are a few common causes for this kind of problem, and you can troubleshoot to narrow it down.

    Check the Power Supply

The most common reason for an Xbox not powering on properly is a faulty or dying power supply.

    • Inspect the power brick: If you have an original Xbox (not the Xbox 360), check the power supply brick for any signs of overheating, damage, or discoloration.
    • Power brick LED: Check the LED on the power brick. If it's orange or red, it indicates an issue with the power supply itself. If it's off, the power supply may be dead. If it's green, the power supply is likely working fine.
    • Orange LED: The brick could be faulty, and replacing the power supply may solve the problem.
    • No LED at all: Try plugging it into a different outlet or try using a different power cable.
    • Test with a known good power supply: If possible, borrow another power supply from a working Xbox and test it to see if the console powers on.
    Check the Power Button

Sometimes the power button on the Xbox can become unresponsive or stuck, preventing the system from booting properly.

    • Press and hold the power button for a few seconds, but if it's not registering, it could be malfunctioning.
    • Try using the reset button (if it has one) or an alternate way to turn on the Xbox (like using a controller if you’re on a newer model).
    Capacitors Issue

The original Xbox consoles are quite old, and sometimes capacitors inside the system can degrade, causing power issues.

    • Power capacitor failure: This would cause the system to try to turn on, but not supply the necessary power for it to fully boot.
    • Fix: This would require opening up the console and checking for swollen or damaged capacitors. You might need to replace the capacitors if you're comfortable with console repair.
    Internal Hardware Issues

    • Loose connections: There could be a loose connection inside the Xbox, possibly between the motherboard and the power supply.
    • Motherboard or component failure: If the system tries to start but fails, it could indicate an issue with the motherboard or another internal component, like the GPU or CPU.
    • Overheating: If the console has been running too hot recently, overheating could have damaged internal components, leading to power issues.
    Disconnect Peripherals

    • Sometimes external peripherals (controllers, memory cards, etc.) can cause power issues.
    • Disconnect all USB devices and memory cards from the Xbox, and try turning it on again with just the power supply connected.
    Try a Different Outlet

    • Power issues could be caused by a faulty power outlet. Try plugging the Xbox into a different electrical outlet or even a different room to rule out outlet issues.

If the above does not work, then you will need to contact Xbox Support for further assistance: Contact us | Xbox Support

Xbox One S won't power on with controller

Hi, with the Xbox powered on press and hold the power button on the Xbox for 10 seconds, when the Xbox powers off pull the power cord out of the back of the Xbox and leave it out for two minutes. Reconnect the power cord and power the Xbox on again
using the power button on the Xbox. That should then resolve your issue.
Having the very same issue. Funnily enough tested the xbox one s with the original black controllers and it turned on and off as it did with my original xbox one. Can only assume this is an issue with Bluetooth rather than infrared controllers....Not best
pleased as seems a backward step

Original Xbox 360 power supply issues?

Basically a possible "Quick Fix" is to open up the "Brick" of the power supply (While unplugged) and clean it.

I did this when i had a similar issue.. Hope this helped.
