    So for starters, I am following the advice here,

    My system OS is 10.0.17763.3066.

    The flash drive I am using is of adequate size, and formatted in NTFS

    I have downloaded, unzipped, and transferred the $SystemUpdate file to the USB drive, from OSU2 and OSU3 on separate occasions, just to test each. Neither work. The drive is completely empty exempting the $SystemUpdate file.

    I get two 'power on' chimes after holding the correct buttons after about 10 seconds of turning the console on. This verifies that the xbox is detecting the USB device, and has "confirm[ed] I have a compatible
    Xbox One system update based on my current build"

    After attempting the update, which is either launched automatically or from the consoles troubleshoot window, I receive "System Error: E101 00000504 8B050041" almost immediately. When I look it up, the page
    sends me back to the help page I am already on.

    I'm stuck in a bit of a loop here. What do I do? I'm downloading OSU1 and attempting that next as a process of elimination.

    For context, when I try to update it without attempting an offline update (i.e., through factory default console setup, the error I receive is 0x80190191 0x00000000 0x80000001

    factory reset    , you may want to attempt an
    offline system update    .

    Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. We understand that your Xbox has been freezing when you open the guide menu, and after an attempt at a factory reset your console doesn't pass the green screen anymore. Is this correct?

    We recommend trying out an offline update. Check out this link: I need help with system updates on my Xbox One

    Select "I need to update my console offline" and then continue following the steps. Please note that when you reach the "Troubleshooting screen" you can also choose to factory reset your console there. It could be worth a try before attempting the offline
    update.

    An offline factory reset uses a much smaller file than the ones used in offline system updates.

    For your reference:

    - This is the file used in an offline factory reset: https://www.xbox.com/xboxone/restorefactorydefaults

    - These are the files used in an offline system update depending on the Xbox model you are using: OSU1 [ https://www.xbox.com/xboxone/osu1 ], OSU2 [ https://www.xbox.com/xboxone/osu2 ], and OSU3 [ https://www.xbox.com/xboxone/osu3 ].

    * The links above will automatically trigger a download for each file.

    ** OSU2 and OSU3 are only used with the Original Xbox One. This is mentioned at https://support.xbox.com/help/hardware-network/console/offline-system-update

    All four files are different, and while an offline system update is recommended for E101 and other startup errors, E102 calls specifically for a factory reset, or an offline factory reset using the file above.
