original xbox one offline update

when i tried to turn on my Xbox it was stuck on the green startup screen i turned it off and on again but that ended up making it go on the black screen of death i ended up putting it on the troubleshoot screen and trying to reset it but that didn't work i went to the store bought a laptop and some usb flash drives and doing the offline update 2 and 3 but those didn't work it's like it does not register the offline update button works but when i press it goes to a preparing console screen and does not load any advice?.

Unfortunately I don't know. Self repair is strictly at your own discretion as it violates the Microsoft's terms of sale

Unfortunately that is a hardware issue and the console will need to be repaired. Since it isn't under warranty anymore I'll suggest you take it to a local departmental store so their repair department can fix it for you and you can take it home the same day.

just to verify it is a new hard drive that i need?

Taking it to a repair technician will be best. Changing the hard drive will lead to the console being cut off from Xbox live. It won't connect, receive updates nor even let you play games.
