Original xbox one making a grinding sound and intermittently not reading discs

I have an original xbox one that I purchased in 1/2015. It has recently started making a grinding sound when I put my game disc in and sounds like it's eating my disc. It has broke off small chips of the inner clear plastic ring of 3 of my games, leaving
them jagged. Also, it intermittently will not read my game discs.

I looked online and found that alot of people have experienced these very problems, especially on the original xbox one's - and many said that microsoft fixed their game consoles. I contacted microsoft today and since my 1 yr warranty expired they say my
only course of action is to pay $135 to send in & repair....even though the customer service agent acknowledged that there were problems with the tray and grinding noises on the original xbox one.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues with their game console & found a remedy?

Xbox one error

I've still got the day on Xbox one and have never had any issues with it until now... the last few days it's not been reading any discs saying that the disc is either dirty or damaged. It's not making a grinding sound more of an squeezing sound, if anyone
know what this is due to and how to fix it I would be very grateful!

Xbox One Repair Form Error - disc drive error

I have had an issue with my disc drive making grinding noises and not reading discs for quite some time now, today I tried to fill out a service request form, but kept being presented with Microsoft SharePoint errors? I talked to the Xbox One Support Chat
but they had no info on the errors, the Twitter support don't seem to either.

I have a similar problem. Whenever I put a disc in, it makes a loud grinding spinning noise, that I can best describe as sounding like a chainsaw. It won't read any discs or anything.

Same here as well. Stick the game disc in and it sounds like grinding for a few seconds then says it can't read disc.

It sounds like your disc drive is going, I had a similar problem but mine would also make the grinding noise so to speak and not read the discs. I literally just mailed mine out today for repairs.

I've considered getting a vertical stand, but from my understanding... it is not recommended to use discs and/or disc tray while the console is in a vertical position. I've read countless reviews stating this, claiming disc tray malfunctions, a "grinding"
sound while disc loading, causing damage to discs etc.

However, Microsoft includes this vertical stand with various console bundles and also has it available to be purchased separately. Which makes me question if the above mentioned "reviews" are legitimate....

Anyone here currently using the vertical stand(OneS or OneX) and discs as well, what has your experience been?

If they were reviewing the Original Xbox One, then yes there were issues and grinding and disc wear etc. The S and X were designed to be able to be stood vertically. If it wasn't, they wouldn't have put a stand in the Scorpio edition. Which I have but never
used it.
