Original Xbox games on Xbox 360

So I'm looking at picking myself up a 360 but there is one problem I want to play original Xbox games on it as well but I've heard that the backwards compatibility only works in North America and I live in the UK(the pal region) is this true because I want
to play halo 2 but I don't want to spend a additional £40 for a og xbox is there anyone in the UK that can chuck their copy of halo 2(or any backwards compatible game) in their 360 and find out for me?

You'd need to do exactly what the message tells you to. You need to attach an original Xbox 360 hard drive to your console in order to be able to play original Xbox games.

If you have a Xbox 360 S 4GB or a Xbox 360 Original Arcade console then you'd need to get yourself an original Xbox 360 hard drive (either for the original Xbox 360, or the Xbox 360 Slim). This information is told to you when purchasing the game in the games
description. An original Xbox 360 hard drive can be purchased from most gaming related retail stores like Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Gamestop, etc.

Backwards compatibility is not region locked so it would definitely work in the UK as long as your console as an official MS hard drive. There are some games that may not work though (Halo 2 should work fine), but you can find some of that information here
