Original xbox games not working on xbox 360 device

I've talked with multiple agents and making a forum post is where I got directed. I've tried everything on Issues playing Xbox Original games
(other than trying the games and hard-drive on another device, as I don't have another hard-drive or compatible device to try them with).

The games I am trying to play are listed on the compatible games list, and there are several of them that won't work. I'm getting the message "The game couldn't start. Try downloading the game again. Please contact Microsoft support at support.xbox.com".

The first rep I talked to was saying the games weren't compatible with the xbox 360, so I had to walk him through the support.xbox.com site to get to this link Games : Top Issues

The console is the Xbox 360 E and the harddrive is a 320GB official Microsoft hard-drive. I've tried downloading the updates through usb and Xbox Live, but I'm still unable to play the games.

Can you play Original Xbox Cracked games (on cd) on a Xbox360?

Hi, no it's not possible to play original xbox cracked/copied/pirated games on the Xbox 360. You will have to purchase original Xbox games to play them on the Xbox 360, you also have to make sure these games are backward compatible

Do I need to get an original Xbox if I have an Xbox 360?

Xbox 360 as far as the original one goes (not sure if the later ones are), well it can play Original Xbox discs, so no you don't need an original Xbox, however they are amazing looking and the controller was awesome. I don't remember my Original Xbox controllers working on 360.

When you purchased the console did you get the hard drive at the same time or did you purchase it from an online retailer such as ebay or amazon? I'm only asking because sites such as those have been known to sell 3rd party drives with an official sticker
pasted to them.

If it's at all possible can you try playing those games on a friends console to see if they work?

 

I got the hard drive separately, but from a Microsoft retailer. It says Microsoft as well when I look at the harddrive under system settings. Sadly, none of my friends have any Xbox consoles anymore. I'm not sure why all of the games would stop working.
One of the reps that I talked to said that it could be because the companies who made the games stopped updating them, but he didn't seem very sure of that answer (nor does that make much sense). I also haven't heard back from anybody, even though another
rep I talked to said that someone would be in touch...

None of the original games are working. All the Xbox 360 games are. Some that I can think of right now are: Simpsons Road Rage, Halo 1 and 2, Lord of the rings Return of the King.

I see you mentioned that you purchased a hard drive for your Xbox 360 E separately. Does this mean that your Xbox 360 E is the version that has the 4GB internal hard drive? If not and your console came with a hard drive, could you provide us with a picture
of both the top and bottom of the hard drive as well as pictures of the top/bottom of the 320GB hard drive you purchased? This is just so we can verify that you have the correct hard drive.
