    Original Xbox game won't run on my Xbox 360


    Hello. Another day, another problem.

    I bought an original Xbox game Project Zero which is said to be compatible with Xbox 360 (it is listed on the official Xbox website). However, when I put the game disc into my Xbox 360, the system says the title can't be played. My 360 is already up to date,
    the disc has no scratches and is of the corresponding region. Any methods of resolving this issue?

    Hi,

    It's likely because the hard drive you're using on the Xbox 360 isn't an official Microsoft hard drive. Only official Xbox hard drives from MS will allow you to run original Xbox games made backwards compatible on the 360 platform.

    Original Xbox games won't run on a 360 if:

    • You don't have an internal hard drive
    • Your internal drive is not official - knock off hard drives from eBay and Amazon won't run original games.
    • Your 360 hard drive is faulty

    Backwards compatibility requires an original Xbox 360 Hard disc with the pre-installed backwards compatibility software. If the disc is wiped, this is lost.

    So... if I have formatted my official HDD, I have no access to the emulator anymore? And there's no way of getting it back, like downloading it from Xbox Live?
    If it's an offical drive formated with the console it will still work.

    If it's not offical like Arminator X mentioned, it won't make any difference.

    Does your Xbox 360 have an original Xbox 360 hard drive in it? Or did you buy a harddrive accessory and replaced/added that to your console?

    Be aware, that only original Xbox 360 hard drives have the necessary Xbox emulator on them. Third Party hard drives might not work with Xbox games, as they lack the original Xbox emulator.
