Original Xbox game fails to download to Xbox 360

Hi there,

When attempting to download Pirates! from Xbox Live to my Xbox 360 earlier today, the download would terminate at 80% completion and I would receive the message ‘can’t download Pirates!’. I was however able to successfully download the demo for a Xbox 360
game, therefore I’m confident that the problem doesn’t lie at my end.

Having read other threads on the subject it seems that there is a recurring compatibility issue between original Xbox games on Xbox Live and the Xbox 360. The conclusion of a thread from June 2019 was that the issue had been resolved for what was then the
latest batch of original Xbox games in the Xbox Live library.

Has anyone else been affected by this issue recently?

Hey WF15,

Try deleting that corrupted file and then using my method again. I also had a corrupted file before and had to delete it before doing the background download method. I would also recommend clearing the cache just in case it helps.

I don't know if this will work for original Xbox games, but I was having this same issue for Xbox 360 games. I found a solution that works for me every time. Download the game in the background when your console is off.

STEPS:

1. Enable "background downloads" in the system settings.

(System -> Console Settings -> Startup and Shutdown -> Background Downloads -> Enable)

2. Start the download for the game(s) you are having issues with.

3. Power off the console.

4. Wait for the power indicator to stop pulsing.

5. Power on the console and check if the game(s) finished downloading.

(System -> Storage -> Install Location -> Games and Apps -> Game Title)

I've successfully downloaded 3 games with this solution. I recently downloaded Rainbow Six Vegas with this method because it is a part of this week's Deals with Gold.

Thanks for reaching out to the Forums for advice on how to deal with this issue being experienced by your 360. I can totally understand how this can be disheartening but hopefully we can provide some info that leads to a resolution. If you're having problems
installing an original game, I suggest rolling back your console's updates as outlined under solution 7 of

Troubleshoot problems with an update to your Xbox 360 console.

When you get the chance, give that a shot and let us know if that helped.

I am sorry that my solution didn't work for you. That means the method I use does not work on Xbox Original titles. I have only used my method on Xbox 360 titles. Best of luck in your problem.

Thank you very much for your detailed reply. I followed your steps but the problem must lie elsewhere as this didn't work, unfortunately.

I can add to my initial description of the problem by confirming that when I select 'games and apps' from system settings>storage>hard drive, the game that I'm trying to download appears as 'unknown game'. When I select this, the file is declared 'corrupted'.

Any ideas, anyone?
