Original Games "Incompatible"

Hey guys,

So I've tried everything in the locked thread to get my 360 to play original xbox games. I bought the console used but the 120HDD is an official MS HDD. I've tried every game I own(all of which are on the list of compatible games), but the only original games
that will work are Halo and Halo 2. Everything else says "not compatible". The games work on an original xbox so it's not the discs.
Do I just need a new HDD? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

well i talked with microsoft and they tell me that the preview disc has expired and that if i want to play halo reach i will have to have the original halo reach disc... end of story... more microsoft

^ Yeah, it looks like a call to Xbox support is going to be inevitable for the both of us. Please post up when you get the situation resolved; I'll be doing the same.

Now to look up the phone number for xbox support in the US...

 

Sorry to hear it. Which console do you have? Is it the older FAT, S or E console? Also, the list of backwards compatible games have changed over the years so the list you are checking may no longer be valid. Which games are not working for you?

As for games I tried:

Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance

Fable

Fuzion Frenzy

GTA 3 and Vice City

Ghost Recon 1 and Island Thunder and 2

Halo 1 and 2

Hunter

Mech Assault 1 and 2

Rainbow Six 3

Unreal Championship

And like I said all that worked was the Halo games.

 

All those games you listed seem to be compatible with the Xbox 360. I can not understand or indeed explain why only Halo and Halo 2 are functioning but nothing else does. However, what I do know for a fact is that for the Xbox 360 to achieve full backwards
compatibility with the original games on the BC list, it must have a fully working and 'official' Xbox 360 hard drive.

You've said that your hard drive is official, how do you know this? Did you buy your console new with the 120GB hard drive, or did you buy it separately? Bear in mind that even if you go to the settings screen and look at the hard drive, the 'Microsoft' name
next to HDD on this screen is no guarantee your hard drive is official. All Xbox 360 hard drives say 'Microsoft' here, even the fake ones.

I would say that fault is with the hard drive. It's not an issue with your console. The 360 achieves BC entirely in software, software, that is only available on a fully functional official Xbox 360 hard drive.

 

Yeah I suppose I shouldn't have been naive to believe that simply because the HDD says it's from Microsoft that it actually is. Is there a way to verify if it is in fact a legit Microsoft product? That way I could rules it out as the cause. Thanks for the

Unless you purchased the hard drive brand new, it's really hard to tell if it's a knock off or the real thing. Usually the only way to tell is by playing original Xbox games. The fact that it does play a couple of games, but not the others makes it even
harder to rule out.

 

If it's giving you an error code that it's incompatible despite being connected to Live, then your drive is damaged and/or a knock off.

 

Thanks for the responses guys. Having some issues contacting Microsoft support. I'll post back here if I get a definitive answer.
