Original 360 Not reading game discs

I know this has probably been approached before, but I could not find it, so forgive me ahead of time if someone has had a similar problem & the fix was posted.

We have a three or four year old Xbox 360 with a 120gb hard drive. Just recently it started to not read the games. Even new ones. On the home page it says 'Open tray' and I do, close it again and it says 'reading'....then goes back to 'Open tray'. I go
through this nearly ten times before it will actually read the game and I can play it. It does this with any game you want to play.

Has anyone cleaned the head at all to have it work after? Does anyone have any tricks? I went through the steps listed in the Support area and on here, but nothing worked. :/ I really want to avoid having to send it out to get fixed. Either that or we'll
have to buy another 360 when we can afford it.

Why Did You Get An XBox 360?

My Crystal LE Xbox was starting to play up not reading game Discs....360 had dropped in price so was the logical upgrade rather then getting another original Xbox as MS had already began to decommission them

Disc Drive Problems

My Original 360 Is have problems reading my discs. I have tried all of my games and every time i put a game in it says Open Tray and on the odd occasion it says Unreadable Disc. What is the problem with my Xbox.

Sorry to hear it. Unfortunately, if you've gone through all the steps listed in the support area (linked below) for the open tray error then you will either need to send it in for repair or purchase a newer console.

Do you have an old 360? I had the original 360 with the "chrome" disc tray. It broke a few years back, and I got the Arcade console. I have trouble with disc readings. I often have to restart my 360 three times before the disc reads.

BUT my game runs fine once the game finally loads up.

A dying or dead DVD optical drive on that old 360 would be the issue here, not the disc.

The original Xbox 360 spec had a maximum DVD size for 360 titles at 6.8GB. Later in the Xbox 360 lifestyle a drive firmware update allowed all 360 consoles to read discs of 7.8GB in size. There was an isolated issue with some 360 consoles not being able
to read later titles because of hardware faults with some earlier 360 consoles with different DVD drives.

Regardless, if your Xbox One can read the game but the old 360 can't, the fault is with your old 360, not the game disc.

Sorry, but it was a known issue by xbox and those that were affected already received their replacement consoles. The last xbl update that happened was a few months ago now.

Your issue is more than likely hardware related as opposed to software related. You can either choose to contact support to get a repair done or look into purchasing a new one.
