Optimum slow download speeds in Westchester, NY - only with Xbox though!

Hi everyone,

Wondering if anyone has the same issue…

I activated the service last week (1 Gig) and the first thing I noticed was that the download speed for Xbox seems to be capped at 175 mbps, with a ping of around 50 ms, which seemed higher.

On my PS5 it’s 800+ mbps. I also tested my other devices and they all seem to be getting good bandwidth, except Xbox.

I get the same speed in Xbox wired or wireless. I’m in Westchester NY and I have a coax cable not fiber.

I’ve already tried to change DNS, no dice.

That will depend on a lot of different factors, especially what game you were downloading and at what time. I've noticed that downloads on the Microsoft Store usually are different between games, where a new update for a very popular game downloads at 5 Mbps, an update for a much less popular game downloads at 240 Mbps, and that would be on two different consoles in the same connection. So, in a way, it depends on the content being downloaded. Just to gather more information, what Xbox console do you have?

It is interesting to see that through one ISP you get full speed, but with the other you don't. In this case, it is clearly something to do with their network and servers, and not directly with your Xbox console or Microsoft's servers. It would be a good idea to contact them and report this situation, so that they identify what's the bottleneck in their infrastructure which is limiting your download speeds.

Hi Claus, thanks for the response!

I have an Xbox Series X. Just to be clear, I get a max of 175 mbps by running the console network speed test.

Also, another piece of info I forgot to add - I still have FIOS 300 mbps and if I connect to that one I get expected speeds but not with Optimum!
