    Play videos on burned discs

I've put a disk in and none of the apps even see the optical blu ray drive let alone any media files on it. The blu ray player app does play media on a blu ray disk that is in the proper blu ray format, but VLC, or even the file explorer app do not even display the optical drive. I can play media on an external drive using VLC.

If you attempt to add / remove stuff to the system (internally) then it'll detect modifications and result in console ban.

I heartily recommend against a self repair in the Xbox One.

As with the Xbox 360 before, the optical drive is cryptographically "married" to the console motherboard. While there had been instructions on the web for the 360 to exchange drives, the process of "marrying" the drive to the console is not fully understood,
and lead to console bans and bricked consoles after a console update.

So I'd say a self repair is usually either not doable, or sooner or later leads to buying a new replacement console anyways, after the console has been banned/bricked.

If you already opened the Xbox One console, Microsoft will also not accept it for repairs anymore. So your only option then is to buy a new console.

Can I Turn An Xbox One Into A Windows 10 Desktop PC?

I certainly know that, when the console finished downloading and verifying an update, it was unable to apply the update, as it had detected an issue with the optical drive. I had disconnected the optical drive because it seems to be useless for me, as
all my games were downloaded onto the console digitally. After I reconnected the optical drive, the console was able to apply the update. Since I was thinking about turning the console's power supply brick into an internal one, I think that I could remove
all parts of the optical drive, except for its motherboard. Because the wires would still be connected to the drive's motherboard, I think that the Xbox will still detect the optical drive, allowing it to work properly.
