Opinions about One & Live Needed

So as it stands, what's the rub with this Xbox one? And live, for that matter? Ive gave up on the console years back when my 5th or 6th 360 stopped reading discs after just setting on a shelf and being rarely used :|

Last I heard about the One, there were lots of complaints about the mandatory things ms was requiring... Things like having to be always connected to internet, no backwards compat for 360 titles, mandatory kinect, and I'm sure some other things I can't think
of at the moment.. Oh, and of course, the price of everything, including live. So what the deal with all that as of today?

Basically, I'm thinking about getting a One, but don't want any surprises once I shell out for the thing, and I dont want to be required to do things that shouldn't be required to simply play offline games, or be required to own and use hardware that I have
no use or desire for. It would also be nice to be able to play the 360 games I paid for, on and off line.

For the past couple of years, since the last 360 broke, I've just been gaming on my laptop, and other than a few minor things, have been very content with gaming on the PC (it's cheaper and more open to community devolped content). But there's also a lack
of support from ms, and they rarely release ms-only titles (gears, halo, forza) for the windows platform, which is why I'm considering another console. My laptops aging quick, so the big debate is whether I should buy a nice new gaming laptop to do computer
and gaming on, or to buy a console and plain Jane laptop. Either way I'll be spending about the same amount of money, but the PC will be cheaper to operate in the long run because I won't be paying for live every year.. And if my 360 games won't play on the
One anyway, that's another reason to pass on the console

Anyway, letme know what you love, or hate, about the One so I can make the right decision! Thanks!

    :)

I'm def agreeing with the Borderlands 2 mentions on here. loot filled ARPG shooter with up to 4 buddies..Diablo 3,Borderlands 1 and Sacred 2:Fallen Angel are also very honorable loot filled 4 player co-op mentions...I have only played the first 2 Army of
two games which are decent(especially the 40th day with more polish) but you'll have more fun with all other games mentioned.

The game you've just described is Borderlands 2.

[/quote] This man speaks the truth.

Avoid Army of Two. They're terrible games.

The witcher 2 is a great game but now what you are looking for.

You don't have to be connected to the internet constantly but I would recommend that you should be due to game updates and so on.

Their is now backwards compatibility and if you owned the game on the 360 it will automatically go to your download que for you to download , not all games are compatible their is a list online to see what gamed are available.

Kinect is no longer a necessity and you can buy a Xbox without kinect.

Xbox live you can buy a years subscription for roughly £25

You can also game share if you have 2 Xbox in your household so if you purchase a game digitally then you only need to pay once and the game would be able to be played on both consoles also Xbox Live can be shared the same way.

I don't game on PC so can't comment on that side.

Good luck whatever you decide and I'm sure more people will be here with some more advice for you.

Thanks for the info. That's sounding a little more reasonable than what I had been hearing around the time when it launched.

So with the sharing.. I can play a game at the same time on two consoles, correct? That was always a gripei had .. Having to buy a game twice if I wanted to coop on separate boxes, esp if the game didn't have split screen option.

But I assume that only one console can be signed in and playing on live with a single gamertag at a given time, right? So this basically equates to not having to recover my account every time I switch consoles?

The 'always online' things not a big deal, but occasionally I'm working or visiting somewhere without internet, and I do t want to be kept from using the device simply because I can't be online, esp if jist teying to play a campaign. I thought I heard somewhere
that the console would 'lock out' if it wasn't connected every-so-often. Is this not the case?

Can you still do LAN parties with this console??

Live cost isn't a deal breaker, and from what friends have told me, it sounds like they're finally offering some kickbacks to gold memebers, instead charging just for the "privelage" of playing online. But just looking at total expenses, the annual membership
adds another several hundred dollars to the operating cost over the life of the console, so its worth factoring it in to the equation. Its going for $60/Yr over here in the states, but can be found for less if you look in the right places.

Here's a big concern: how reliable are these consoles? I bought the 360 in its first year, and the ms racing wheel when it launched, and both were plagued with breakdowns and recalls. Is the one a better designed machine, or are there high failure rates
with it too? And have there been any hardware revisions that I should look for?.. Like how the 360 was revised with board design and chip size changes thru its run??

May be other questions that come to mind later, but I'm tired,so that'll be it for tonight! Haha. Thanks again!

  7. Mr Boozyhead has given you some really good information there.

What I recommend is doing some research into the things YOU want out of the console, for example, check the BC list to see if the games you're looking for are there, look into Windows 10 gaming as MS is actually bringing their exclusives to that platform,
weigh up the value of an XBL Gold sub with the benefits and amount of time you'll be using it etc.

For me personally, I've enjoyed the Xbox One console and get what I want from my gold sub. I'm sure I'd enjoy gaming on other platforms too, but I honestly just don't have the time, haha.

  9. Sound advise others have given.

I would hold off until after E3, as Sony and MS seems to be more than a little worried about Nintendo's possible upcoming powerhouse.

VR, 4k upscale gaming etc. Current gen has to use all 8 cores, and still have a hard time maintaing 900p @30 FPS. (Star Wars: Battlefront - for example) Compair that to where developers want to take gaming and it becomes clear that current gen consoles do
    not measure up.

remember with sharing, you have one box set as the home box and the other just sign in, any conent you own on the home box can be played by any profile on there including sharing of live, the other box you will need to be signed in on.

  11. And as mentioned the 360 BC will show up on your download disc. The XB1 will need to download the game regardless of whether you own the 360 game or if it's previously a digital copy. I'd also recommend looking into EA access, it isn't very expensive and
will boost your catalogue quickly. For me the benefits of gold are worth the cost though of course the outcome varies depending on what you want.

  12. Something to remember about the Microsoft exclusives on the PC is that they are locked behind their own wall, much like Steam or Origin. You will only be able to buy direct from them.

It's not a big thing in the grand scheme of things but to some people it is becoming something over the top.

Definitely check out EA Access. Another cool thing on the One is the preview games. Basically you can buy games for a cheaper price that are still in development. I think it's a great way to really test them out. so far I've bought 2 games like that and
when they released they were really good.

Also with Games with Gold not are you only getting 2 Xbox One games per month, you can also download the 2 free 360 games per month right from your X1 console and play them with no trouble.

I also would recommend the Kinect. I love it for voice commands. I use them all the time. If it ever broke I'd buy a new one.

If you've enjoyed gaming on your PC for the last few years then you're probably better off sticking with a PC unless MS actually announces anything groundbreaking during E3. To date though, you haven't missed much with the X1.
