OPINION: Enjoy your consoles, and stop refusing to play games out of fear that they might...

I’ve seen a lot of folk on here saying there avoiding games (like Cold War) due to the hard crashing that they are causing on the new gen consoles - out of fear that the game might brick their console...

I’m in a similar position, I got my Series X on release day along with Cold War, on average, my console will hard crash around every 5 hours when playing the game - however once I did go around 15 hours of play without a crash...

My console will turn itself off after the game freezing like other people are reporting, however is this a reason not to play the game? Not really imo, and I’ll explain why:

1. 
   It’s a new console, and especially if you bought one on launch day, you need to put it under load and test out the hardware - if it bricks, then you know you have a dud unit, and return it under the warranty scheme for a replacement, sure, it’s annoying that you’ll have to wait for a replacement, but it’s better knowing what your console can handle now, rather than outside the warranty period...

   Have some fun! All my mates are playing Cold War right now, and I’m sorry - but I didn’t shell out £450 for an Xbox Series X just to sit there and listen to them have fun whilst I play another game on my own, whilst waiting for a patch which may or may not come for ages, I’d rather have the fun I intended to have by playing the game with them, despite a few crashes, and knowing I’m under warranty if shit hits the fan...

   The chances of a game actually being the root cause of your console to bricking is very small - the console shuts itself down to protect itself from some poorly optimised data in games, and sometimes the game will hit a snag causing the console to freak out and therefore shit down, the chances of THIS being the cause of bricking are small, most often as I said, it’s an undiscovered hardware issue which is why it’s best to test out your console under demanding games during the warranty period...
   

I hope this post has helped some people see things from a different perspective, if you are able to, have fun on your new console! Especially after the year we’ve all had - if you’re crashing extremely often in the menus then I’m not sure to recommend, this post is mainly for the people that are experiencing crashing every so often in select games and are freaking out about it.
