    REPEAT FOREVER AND EVER

    Basically, the xbox is ALWAYS in a state of opening the disc tray. As soon as the tray finishes closing, the xbox opens it again. It will never even begin to try and read the disc that you slip in.

    I got this xbox on black Friday last year.

    I'm in Korea right now so I'm not shipping the stupid thing back.

    No *** answers please, I don't have time for them. A *** answer would be something like "check the grounding" or "clean the touch sensor."

    Werid issue with disk tray

    I couldn't find the way to fix this issue anywhere on xbox.com or on the forums but my xbox has this issue where the open/close tray block thing isnt right. Like if its open, it would say "Open tray" and same with the "Close Tray" thing too. Another thing
    that is weird about my tray is that when it does say "Close tray" when its open, i try closing it but it doesnt move and it goes on to say "Reading.....Open tray" and the tray is still open. Anyway to fix this? (I have the Original Xbox 360)

    What you may need to do is turn off the device, and unplug it for about 10 seconds. Re plug it in and start it up again. Make sure that the trey has not been knocked over or bumped out of place, and try again. If your consul is laying flat, try standing
    it up right like a tower and try that way as it may be the sensor in the back has been jiggled out of place. If all else fails, you may need to send it in for repair due to an optical drive failure. You can set up for it to be sent in for repair at

    Please ignore lil chucky1145's comment about taking the console someplace for servicing. Section 1.9 of the ToU doesn't allow for unauthorized servicing.

    Nope. Doesn't do anything. I tried opening it with the controller and the screen read: Open tray,close tray, Open tray,close tray. I have had no other problems with the console until that update that seems to be giving a lot of people trouble.

    Give it a try with the disc cleaning, but if that doesn't solve the issue, it's likely that you need to send the Xbox for repair.

    Why do we keep buying it? It's because we like the 360 as a whole, compared to what's out there.

    I'm on my 3rd 360 with disc error being the main problem for myself, and it's a bit of pain they won't cover it like they did the RROD. I absolutely prefer the 360, but I might just spend the rest of this gen leaning on PS3 purchases with the odd 360 game since
    my 360 is having trouble reading discs again.



    As for what causes open tray, it varies. It can easily be the laser on all models of disc drives, or it can be something specific. Older hitachis used to have dust and whatever collect on the spindle which prevented the disc from spinning. My current one
    is a BenQ, and that one tends to have that metal worm shaft collect stuff which prevents the laser tray from moving.
