OOW Xbox 360 S Failure To Update; All Troubleshooting Step Exhausted

Xbox 360 S bought in 2012 hasn't been played with in a year. Tried to get it set back up and it will connect to Live, start to download and fails. Tried using USB and it will download but fail to install. This is where I begin to think MS doesn't care about
the customer, only money.

For 2 weeks, I called tech support and tried every troubleshooting step three times over. I am told to create a repair. First I was told I qualified for a free repair, then told it will be $79. Fine, I just want it to work for my kids. Saved up the money
(not rich) and put the order in (Feb 21, 2017). Shipping label fails to load online and isn't sent via email.

• I call and am told it can take 24hrs to show. It doesn't show.
• I call and am told it can take 48-72hrs to show. It doesn't show.
• I call and am told to go to FedEx and have them print the label using the order number. FedEx says they don't do that anymore. I call while I'm at FedEx and over the course of an hour I am told they could email me the label, but I need to prove my identity.
  Knowing the console #, order #, gamertag, email address, etc isn't enough. FedEx is closing now and I go home with a boxed up Xbox.
• I call and am told I need to cancel my order, get a refund, and reorder a repair. By this time, we've had a medical emergency and I cannot afford to repair my Xbox. I find out later, there was no need to cancel the order or do a refund and there are steps
  they could have taken to create a new ticket.
• They cancel it, and I haven't gotten the refund in my bank yet. (March 2, 2017)
• I call and ask them if there isn't some way they could repair for free as it seems to be a chronic hardware issue. I am told I totally deserve one (been on the phone 30 times at this point for hours at a time) but they can't do that for me. They HAVE given
  me 4mos free Xbox Live Gold codes that cost more than the repair, but are totally worthless to me with a broken Xbox.
• Last conversation the support agent breaks the world record for saying "Uhhhhm" and "Uhhhhh" the most times in a single sentence (1 1/2 hr call) only to tell me that he can't fix for free and the only person who could authorize that, is there but refuses
  to speak to me, then puts me on hold for 20min, comes back and says the exact same thing again.

Just curious, at what point does it become a lost cause. I'm considering selling all the free Xbox Live Gold 1mos codes they gave me and buying a second hand Wii or Playstation and closing my Xbox accounts. I'm bummed out. Bought more memory thinking that
was why the update wouldn't work and even wiped the system back to factory settings. Nothing. I feel cheated.

Am I missing something? Is there a trick to getting MS to do the right thing? Is there a troubleshooting tip I haven't tried? Please Help Me!
