Only way to play destiny is to disable router firewall. PLEASE HELP

So i've tried port forwarding and i have opened manually about 15 ports, the ones that are recommended by bungie and microsoft. The xbox one tells me that my nat is open, but i still have problems connecting to other players and i can't play more than 3
crucible games without getting kicked with an error code. i'm using a wired connection.

The only solution i have is described below, but i really need some advice.

1) turn off wi-fi

2) turn off pc

3) disable router firewall

After these steps, i can play without any problems

Is disabling the router firewall in order to play on xbox live SAFE if i don't connect to the internet on my pc or on my phone and wi-fi is turned off?

Unfortunately my modem doesn't support UPNP

:)

Random disconnections from Live

Just in case it was misunderstood I said do not disable NAT, not do not disable the firewall. Disabling NAT will certainly stop the network working but that said I think the OP is referring to this text from his manual:-

NAT (Network Address Translation). NAT automatically assigns

private IP addresses(10.1.1.x) to LAN-connected devices.

Enable

. Usually NAT is enabled.

Disable

. This disables NAT, but leaves the firewall active. Disable NAT only if you are

sure you do not need it. When NAT is disabled, only standard routing is performed by this router. Classical routing lets you directly manage the IP addresses that the wireless modem router uses. Classical routing should be selected only by experienced
users.

1

Disable firewall

. This disables the firewall in addition to disabling NAT. With the firewall disabled, the protections usually provided to your network are disabled

Which does sound like there's no option to just turn off the firewall

Internet Conection

I've been having some problems with that internet connection error, too, but honestly, I don't know how I feel about disabling the firewall and/or security features of the router. I hope they release a patch soon that will fix the problem.

Hi,

Before being able to provide you with an precise answer to your question, could you provide the make and model of your router and your modem as well (if this is not a single device).

Ok that is fine.

Could you tell us if you have specific features which could correlate with the firewall, or not. For example, DoS protection that could be enabled or disabled, or IPSec passthrough that could be enabled or disabled.

Even if you were to disable your gateway's firewall all toghether, devices on your internal network would still be procected by Network Address Translation (to a certain degree).

So with NAT, only traffic that has first been initiated from the inside of your network to an outside host/service can allowed back in to the orignial initiated host. Traffic that are initated randomly from the outside to inside of your network will not
be allowed through the NAT translation table.

A strong and healthy personal firewall (software based) installed on your computer is better than the one running on your gateway.

Only way to play destiny is to disable router firewall. PLEASE HELP

Unfortunately i haven't heard about DoS, or IPSec, but i didn't see them anywhere on the modem settings page (192.168.1.1). If that sort of protection is on, it has been working since the beginning, because i haven't personally activated anything like
that

Tomorrow i will learn about DoS and IPSec so i can give a more precise answer.

Howerver, as i said i'm going to disable the router firewall only WHILE i'm playing multiplayer (time: 1,5-2 hours max), and i'm going to reactivate it as soon as i stop playing, my PC and wi-fi will be off during that gaming session, so i don't know
if a pc firewall can work for this purpose..... how can someone hack my connection and pc through my xbox??

I know it's hard to answer questions like these, but is the risk too high?? What would you do if you were in this situation? Thanks for the help btw, i really appreciate it, nobody else seems to have this problem
Tomorrow i will learn about DoS and IPSec so i can give a more precise answer
Those two are fairly easy to describe.

DoS (Denial of Service) protection is a basic protection which try to protect/discard abnormally large number of packets which are followed by a certain pattern. For example, TCP SYN flood, or ICMP flood requests, which can potentially overwhelm
a networking device with unwanted traffic, and prevent legitimate traffic to pass through. For your particular firewall, not much of a help in this day and age.

IPSec passthrough is a feature that allows IPSec to be established between a point-to-point VPN.

The Xbox One uses Teredo to tunneling IPv6 over IPv4. Since Teredo itself do not encrypt traffic, it take use of the IPSec framework, to encrypt all the sensitive data that are being tunneled.

IPSec uses UDP port 500 (point-to-point) for ISAKMP Security Association (phase 1 of the IKEv1/2 negotiation) and is being changed to UDP port 4500 when it detects one or many NAT along the transmission path.
I know it's hard to answer questions like these, but is the risk too high??
To not have your router's firewall enabled, no (in my oppinion).

Your computer is more susceptible for suspicious traffic, than your Xbox is. So, the first line of defence, to protect your local network from unwanted traffic, would actually be a good and healty firewall installed on your computer, and not rely so much on
the one that runs on your router.

If you have more questions, feel free to ask away.

Thank you, i'll get a firewall just for my pc then.

Unfortunately i discovered that not even disabling the firewall can completely fix the problem, i get booted usually 2 times when i play about 13- 14 matches, before that i used to get booted every 3 matches. At this point, i thinks it's a bungie problem
and not mine, bunt not everybody has these issues. i opened all the ports that bungie and microsoft told me to open. i can find players, but as soon as the map is loaded i get kicked, sometimes someone on the enemy team gets kicked as well. Often, i can rejoin
the match immediately but for some gametypes join-in-progress is removed and i'm ***.

Do you think there are some things that i can do to improve my situation, considering everything i tried to do?

Only way to play destiny is to disable router firewall. PLEASE HELP

UPDATE: now even disabling the firewall can't fix the problem

i got kicked 2 more times. I decided to switch to black ops 3 , had not played that game in months. Something weird happens: i don't get kicked, but very frequently, like every 15-20 seconds there's a frame rate drop (lag? ) and i start teleporting for 0.5
to 1 second it's very annoying . I was green bar the entire game and the ping was around 55-60. I'm starting to think that it's a router problem.

EXAMPLE
xboxclips.com/.../3ee35b8e-2483-4081-b3fc-547531e6dbb4
first time it happens at 0:11 second time at 0:20, watch carefully. Keep in mind that i was green bar the entire time
