  1. Online Play and Microsoft Family

I have found out in one of my games that, despite at the time I did not have an Xbox Live Gold subscription, I could not enter because an error appeared saying, "You do not have sufficient Xbox Live privileges
to access this feature." I have a teen account right now, so is this why I can't enter? In my Microsoft family there's another member who's an adult. Are they able to let me play online if they choose to by changing privacy settings (and other things)?

Also, does an account change its type when it ages? Like child (8 to 12) to teen (13 to 17)? In my case once my account reaches 17 years (or later), will it change to adult? I just want to make sure.

    Thank you!

    :)

    Help Please

Online Passes are Game Specific, so if you got a pass with a game say Gears of War 3 and your son has his own gamertag he can play it, though Family Gamertags are also age specific, so you'd have to make sure to give his gamertag adult privileges. You could
play your game online and he could play his, though if he wants to use a game you already used the online pass for you'd have to purchase a new one.

A new online pass usually costs 800 Microsoft Points.

Family Passes allow playing of games on more of one console as long as both consoles have a Gold Account even with the Family Pass, the only difference between Family Pass and Regular Gold is that with a Family Pass the owner of the account can control the
content on the Child or Family Account.

So it would seem that the impact on a family like mine with three online players will be quite significant, I really loved the family gold system as it helped minimise the cost of online play for us, it now seems that this cost will be too much and someone
in the family will have to give up their gamertag Online Play and Microsoft Family :( I find it strange that Microsoft had not considered this before removing the family gold system, or maybe they had.

The age Xbox accounts turn into adult is 18 (19 in Korea). This can not be done before that because of how age is permanently connected with the first age you put in when creating the account - so you can change your microsoft age but that won't change your
    xbox account age.

Yes, your adult account will need to change some settings if you are currently on a child/teen account.

Have the adult on the adult account go here
    https://account.xbox.com/Settings
and click on the child's account and allow the option on the first page called "Share stuff people make (Xbox 360: Member Content)" to everyone (must be everyone). Also, on the first page, "Others can communicate with voice,
text, or invites" to Friends or Everybody. And on the xbox one/windows 10 tab the second option down, "Join multiplayer games", enable that. And then log out and in on the account in question on the console/device and that account can play online.

Keep in mind thought that gold is required for online multiplayer. So that error message could simply be due to the fact that you did not have gold. If you get a gold subscription and continue to receive the message, then it would be due to your age and
    privacy settings.

How to I allow online play on the SWITCH. I'm only seeing Options for Xbox or Windows

Hello, I hope you are well.

    Please try these steps.

To allow your daughter to play online on the Switch, it is essential to set up the game's content restrictions in the Xbox Family Settings app. After linking your Microsoft account to your daughter's account in the Xbox Family Settings app, you can change the content restrictions to allow online play.

Steps to set up online play on the Switch:

    1. In the Xbox Family Settings app:

Sign in with your family organizer's Microsoft account.

Select the profile of the member you want to manage and go to settings.

    Under Content Restrictions, select "Minecraft".

Enable "Multiplayer" to allow the player to play online.

Enable "Clubs" to allow access to Realms and other features.

    2. On the Nintendo Switch (optional, but recommended):

Make sure your daughter's account has a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

Go to Family Settings on Nintendo Switch and make sure that online play restrictions are enabled for your child's account.
