Online multiplayer blocked permission loop

Greetings,

Recently I've been attempting to join online multiplayer in games that I own, and am repeatedly presented with a notification informing me that my account does not have permission to join multiplayer games because of how it is set up. I had previously set the setting "You can join multiplayer games" in the Account's Communication and Multiplayer settings, to block, and left that setting in that state before turning off my xbox for the night and heading to bed. The next day, I am presented with the aforementioned notification when I try and join GTA online and think nothing of it, subsequently being asked to enter my password, which is deemed correct, and then whether I'd like to enable the ability to join multiplayer games. However, once I select "Allow", I am given yet another notification informing me I am unable to join multiplayer games because of how my account is set up. I am therefore stuck in a loop of not being able to allow the joining of multiplayer games, despite my account settings claiming otherwise.

I've seen another post of this kind from 2020, detailing the exact circumstance, however the replies are disabled and there is no indicator as to whether there is a permanent resolution for this issue.

If anybody can supply me with answers or guidance, it would be most appreciated!

To those who may experience a similar issue in future, I was able to post my query into a chat with Microsoft's virtual agent AI in a "contact us" page, and was there able to ask for and chat with a human who said they were aware of the issue and would pass on my details to a team working to fix it. A day or two later, the issue was resolved!

Therefore if you believe you are experiencing this same issue (and they haven't universally fixed it) then I suggest you do the very same.

To change the privacy settings your account must be an adult account, otherwise you will not have access.

if your account is for a child, you need an adult account to link your account and manage your privacy settings

I doubt very much the problem has been caused by anything you have done. I've spent the last three days trying to resolve the same issue with Roblox for my Daughter. My daughter's settings are exactly the same as my two son's yet she cannot play and they
can. Three online chats later and the problem still isn't fixed. After resetting the permissions, restarting the xbox and signing in and out a couple of times she can sometimes play for a while, but as soon as she signs out of the game and tries to sign into
another we get the same settings error and she can't play. Something is clearly wrong on Microsoft's side.

You can try this if you like, it worked for us a couple of times but now doesn't have any effect - might be worth a try for worth a try for you.

With your son signed out, on the xbox go to Settings - Network - Network Settings - Advanced Settings - Alternate MAC address - Clear - Restart Now. Then sign back in and see if he can get online.

Check that your son's privacy settings allow him to play games online: https://account.xbox.com/settings

Look for the "Join multiplayer games" setting. This might be set to "Block", which could be causing that permission error.

Hi Ashvlgirl!

I believe the problem is that your permission settings are blocking online multiplayer games.

I had this problem myself when I got my xbox, if you’re certain the xbox live gold subscription has been applied then the issue is probably just due to the account restrictions,

I recommend going back into settings and allowing “adult permissions”, which allow you to play online games.
