  2. I don't think TMCC is all that great to use as an example for online play. Simply because it had enough bugs of its own and not everyone may understand what is game related and what would be network related. lol >.<

    Another common misunderstanding about dedicated servers is that they 'fix' lag. I think most people understand that they reduce lag, not fix it. But I think that a lot of people think that it means everyone experiences the same [reduced] lag, which isn't
    the case.

    Bad connection is bad... someone with a poor connection to a dedicated server will still have lag. The difference is that there's zero chance that person will be host and everyone will experience lag that is directly based upon their independent connection
    to the server. Even a slightly laggy connection will 'feel' more stable in that case, though, because there isn't a randomly changing connection to a new host that may or may not be better or worse than the previous one.

    Another fun fact about online gaming... video games have built in lag compensation. A few years back (not sure how many) I saw a short video that basically explained how CoDs lag compensation code worked... and called it out for not being very reliable,
    especially for a 'twitch shooter'. Makes me wonder how many people have blamed lag and servers for something that is actually a part of the game engine itself?

  3. Personally, I think lag compensation is what causes CoD to be so broken network-wise; sadly, the alternative (not having it) is far worse. This is why I've been waiting YEARS for them to come up with a better engine that can use more modern networking techniques
    for faster and smoother gameplay.

    With all of these new games coming out, a lot of people will stop playing Destiny and that will mean there will be less traffic for it (the servers) to deal with.

    With that being said, will the poor server connections (I checked and it isn't my internet) that happens every now and then be a thing of the past?

    I may end up buying the Xone, as i do like Halo. And thanks to Blue Illusion,(and alot of reading) i learned that not all games played on a MS system use Ms servers. I really do enjoy the COD series, as the actual game is pretty good as a 1st person shooter...It
    is disappointing that Act/Trey Built a nice series, and use the crappy P2P player host system, im old, and i do understand its all about revenue, but ***...they have made bukoos more than enough to implement dedicated servers for BO3, and possibly continuing
    COD games... I understand there will always be a certain amount of latency issues with online gaming, but dedicated servers do make a vast improvement. As a personal thought: to make online gaming the best possible, if MS etc. would run ping/latency tests
    on players as they logged in, so they would be be matched with players as closely as possible... Been playing some Bo2 Deathmatch again, and 80/90% of all my games have noticeable lag issues, Host migration, due to them being slowed down to the point of horrible
    game play. Like i said, i would much rather have alot smaller playing field, and better games, than to be matched with player in Canada, or Cali, as im on the southern east coast...You know the Ping numbers are off the charts..

    Quick question: Doesn't dedicated servers in affect create something similar to a "Local Network"? I know it would still depend on everyones connection stability and speed/pings.

    I know i rant alot, but if you get bored, head on over to Acti/Trey on FB and ask if dedicated servers will be used for BO3....Its a sure way for you to be avoided like the plague...Seems they will answer all other questions, and even offer to help you configure
    your Xbox for "Best online play" but they will not even acknowledge you asked about servers....

    MS seem to have moved away from COD, I would put a little weight (IMO) in the fact MS wasn't overly happy with their development plans, their inability to run dedicated servers is truly amazing.

    A agree with everything blue has said in regards to MS not controlling games developers and how they program and build their games.

    Titanfall MP is amazing, as is Halo 5, and I mean amazing.

    However they can't do what COD does, and thats provide a fast pased of shooter that keeps you coming back for more. COD players (well me anyway) would be happy for cut and paste COD 4, but since then its lost so much and mot importantly its netcode.

    COD has a 3 year cycle, with 3 development companies involved, so man power, time and money isn't an excuse for not having the best net code in MP gaming.

    MS Azure server issues are simply, PS and other platform games aren't going to use them (when infact they should).

    Destiny doesn't have dedicated servers either and their balance will well off for PvP, if you haven't bought destiny yet its good value for money, if you have your paying for a game twice.

    nope, if it did they would scream it from the roof tops, its a major selling point.

    Activision don't have dedicated servers on their main (IMO) FPS MP COD and have no plans on adding them, why would they do it for Destiny, when destiny's PvP is an after thought.

    they keep numbers low. Low numbers in fireteams, low numbers in public areas, public areas have very little of everything AI for example, areas between main locations are fireteam only, missions are fireteam only, etc etc etc.

    PvP the connections are considerably worse than PvE.

    Thinking about it, they messed up designing and planning year one if they had to program dedicated servers as well, eek I dread to think.
