One S does not change or control TV channels (Solution)

Having had a Xbox One from day one I was really disappointed when I started using the One S to control TV channels and power to TV and Cable box.

I used the Kinect Voice Commands almost all the time and never needed to use other remotes for anything with the original Xbox One. However this was an issue with the One S and I had great problems setting up.

To begin with powering up and down the TV or Cable box never worked. I had it work a few times so knew it should so called support. They advised to await the delivery of my

free Kinect Adapter for the One S and everything would be good again. I had already managed to see this work a few times so I was not convinced when told this but waited. With the Kinect in things were a bit better but still way from what I had originally.
I had copied remote codes so all that was good.

MY PROBLEM WAS I HAD THE XBOX HIDDEN OUT OF SIGHT IN A CABINET.

The Xbox One S does not give all TV controls to the Kinect but instead uses the inbuilt IR Blaster. You need a headset (or a small tiny microphone you can attach to controller, which I tried) to give this voice commands and I think must use Cortana. I
preferred to use the simple Xbox "On" "Watch BBC 2" Pause, Rewind etc. commands and found Cortana annoying for this so turned Cortana off in her settings and moved the One S out of the cabinet so the IR Blaster was not hidden.

Now everything is back to normal except my Xbox is now in full display and can be heard when it was better hidden for me. You can get an IR Blaster extension cable from Microsoft but I think this should be free in the same way the adapter is if you have
One with Kinect and One S. Little word of warning if you are going to sell your One to buy a One S ensure you register the devices first or you wont

get the free adapter for Kinectif you need it.

Hope this story helps someout out and they don't spend a week going round in circles all the time. Of course when I played around and tested with the cabinet open everything was fine but close it and nothing worked with voice commands until I got Kinect
adapter then some commands did.

Turn her off and go back to using Xbox On, etc. as it's just simply 100 times than Cortana. You want to watch Sherlock Holmes and she goes off searching for "Shear Locks for Homes" "Is that correct". Pain in the hoop.

Had One S since Day One and tried to use Cortana but she is hopeless and who wants to sit with a headset on to change TV channels. Not the brightest idea and really poorly executed along with One S's hardware changes and particularly the moving on IR control
from Kinect to the console she is truly hopeless.

Maybe better is US (I'm Scottish) but I never have much problem using Xbox instead. You can turn Cortana off in Settings.

Xbox one won't control my pace dc 700x cable box

When I try to change the channel with vocal commands my xbox understands me, but does not change the channel on my Pace dc700x cable box from Mediacom. It controls my tv just fine. I have installed an ir extension cable, but that does not help at all.
