One game two consoles

I have many kids, and I too am a gamer who doesnt want to be left out of the fun. While it is not a perfect system and is one of the things I think MS can do better on, the work-around I have is as follows.

I set my son's console as the Home console. Despite what others have said here, it does not truly matter which console the games are purchased on. Home console trumps all as I will explain in a moment. I set my sons up with their own account, and I set my account
as the parent account to them. Then on the home console, I click to share my gold. On my console, I have all my games, and on my kid's console I have the games I consider appropriate for their age group. Since their console is set as the home console, they
can now play any of the games I have installed there even when offline. Sadly, I must always be online on my console in order to play anything, which is the fail side. The other fail side is you can really only do this with 2 consoles, so if you have more
kids and consoles you are up **** creek without a paddle.

The other users here are absolutely correct about disc based games...you must have that disc in the drive to play the game if it was installed by disc, which requires you to have multiple copies of the game. If you do as I do, you can use the father's account
to purchase the games digitally on his xbox, then install them on the Home console where your kids things are. Some games I bought exclusively for them, so it is only on their console, while some I bought exclusively for me, and is only on my console. Some
I bought for all of us and are on both consoles. Using this method you will be able to share the experience for the most part. I do hope MS changes this to at least allow up to 4 consoles at a time. Many games do not support same console couch play, and even
those that do can be problematic to some of us who do not do well with split screen, or who have many kids of differing ages who do not always share well and get along the best, or want to do the same things. In this regard, it can be very limiting and you
should consider this. The only choice I will have at some point if they do not change this is to ween my kids to their own respective accounts with their own respective game licenses, which would be costly. I also do not like that if the internet is out I
cannot use my console.

Ah CyberSpyder, I could not ask for a better explanation.

I have my account set up as the parent account and both boys have their own accounts.

I hope to have more time for gaming as i did before the kids came along. Will be good to have my own console again.

I will follow your advice to the letter. I wish i had asked about gold membership previously but on Christmas morning no time for research just the urgent need to get son number 2's console working with Fortnite and for that purchased a second gold membership
for him.

I think now i should have asked about if this can be shared and with how many if so.

It would be nice to have a simple guide from MS for parents with more than one child/console.

Thanks for coming to the forums. Is the copy of the game disk or digital? If disk you will need to copies of the game. If digital, whichever account you bought the game on you can set as

home console.
