One Game at a Time - Home xbox not working?

Just got my Series X set up and I'm now getting this message about how you can only play one game at a time.

Here's my set up:

- Xbox One S (this is set as the HOME xbox)

- Xbox Series X

- Gold account under my gamertag that's on both Xboxes, but isn't set to sign in automatically.

So on the home xbox, when my kid tries to play Destiny under his gamertag, it won't let him play online until my account is signed in. But as soon as he signs in with my account, I can't play any games on the Series X--I get the "One game at a time" message.
(It's a different game-not Destiny.)

Isn't the point of the home xbox that someone can use it and play online without being signed into the main live account?

(We replaced an older xbox one with the series X, and we never had a problem before both playing different games online at the same time--this is a new issue.)

Any ideas? Or am I understanding how this works wrong? Which would be odd, because it just started not working with the new Xbox.

Thanks. I'll try the HOME option. Although now I wonder if I messed up some setting somewhere or something by switching, because we have definitely been playing different games on different consoles at the same time for years.

You may want to verify your kids xbox is set to “home” under your gamertag. He should be able to play any games you have online without you being logged in. Also check his parental settings maybe something there is stopping him from playing online. Xbox
will not allow you to play games on 2 different consoles doesnt matter what the 2 games are. Becouse your son is logged in and a game is lauched its like your playing and thats why you get the message when you try to play on your xbox. Hope this helps good

If the game is not working for you then he probably made the account Home for another console. The Home setting can only be used as Home on one console at a time.

You get two licenses with digital content - one is a Home Console license, the other is a Gamertag license. Make the console you DON'T use your Home Console. Any games you buy will work for any gamertag on the Home Console without your gamertag being logged
in. Any games you download to a console that isn't your Home Console will work for your gamertag, provided it's logged into Live.

You can change which console is your Home Console at any time:
