There should not be an issue, this was listed as one of the features for having the External HDD support.

    A couple of things:

The one you take to a place without Internet, make sure you update it first. You will need to connect it to Live for a one-time setup which requires an Internet connection. After that it can be permanently offline. Plus you would need the update anyway for
    the external HDD support.

The Internet-less Xbox would need to be set as your Home Xbox. Designating a console as Home allows any user to play all your purchased and downloaded games on it. On a non-Home Xbox you need to be signed in and connected to Live as the purchasing account
    to play your downloaded games.

Let us know if you have any questions about this.

I got the 3TB version and this is what I Replying to all the Hard Drive question here as this needs to be fixed Please

I got a WD MyBook and I like it, but it doesn't shut down like it does with a computer

I say Xbox needs to make the Xbox One power off USB when you turn the One off

    Please fix this issue Xbox

after december update will not see external drive.

I have two Xbox One's (Day one editon and a One X), both an external HDD (1TB), latest update and no issues.

    External HDD

Yes External HDD support is available. The External HDD must be at least 256GB in size and use USB 3.0. Keep in mind that the External HDD will have to be formatted for use with the Xbox One console.
