On Xbox One, I can't "download" my account in the 360 virtual console for a backwards...

The 360 store and the One store are set up differently. Due to restrictions on child accounts for the 360 store that can't be adjusted on the One, you can't download backwards compatible games. You can get them through a 360 console.

Can i then buy the 360 disc for the game and then put it in my xbox one and it will work?

I am sorry to know about your issue; However, we have multiple detailed troubleshooting steps for this matter on the official Xbox website to help you take care of it. Before going through the troubleshooting steps mentioned on the link I was referring to, and after making sure that your credentials are correct, I would like you to go through the following steps to clear your Mac address and then perform a quick power cycle on your console:

Settings > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Alternate Mac Address > Clear it and the console should restart. It would definitely help if you could restart the internet router while the console is restarting.

Another thing you should check is your NAT type. I would like you to check your NAT type if open because that could sometimes interfere. to check for the NAT type you can follow the steps below:

Settings > Network Settings > NAT type => It should be open.

If the NAT type is not open, you will need to open some ports with your internet provider. These ports must be open for Xbox Live to work: Port 88 (UDP) Port 3074 (UDP and TCP) Port 53 (UDP and TCP) Port 80 (TCP) Port 500 (UDP) Port 3544 (UDP) Port 4500 (UDP).

Please keep in mind that you can redeem your code online by signing with your account to Microsoft account | Redeem and trypibng correctly the 25 character code.

Hello, my xbox live profile is called "RinsableMLG" and today for some reason, I can't play xbox 360 backwards compatible games be ause my profile won't download on the xbox 360 servers. I can play xbox one games, but I can't play my xbox 360 games
and my profile won't download and it states "There's a problem with your credentials, blah blah blah". If I use my other two accounts, I can play on the xbox 360 games but not my RinsableMLG one. I seriosuly don't know what to do and I'm panicking right now.

I have the exact same problem. I was just trying to play saints row but couldn't connect to xbox live on backwards compatibility. So I deleted my account and now I can't download on backwards compatibility with the same error message as you.

Are you on the 360 and trying to download a 360 game, or are you on the One and trying to download a backwards compatible 360 title? When I am trying to download a backwards compatible title on my One I will get that message. I have found that if I go
on my 360 and download it, that then makes it appear in the Ready to Install section of my games and apps on my One console. Not sure why this happens, but it is a work around to make it possible to get it on my One without it telling me I can't do it.
