Old xbox Microsoft account issue

So basically I removed an old account I had sometime last year and for some reason even after a year I cannot use the gamertag on this current account that i had on my deleted one and I find it really annoying! Is there some way to change this?

Sorry to hear you are running into this problem. are you trying to recover the old account or is it that you are trying to use the gamertag you had on the other account? Also, when you are saying you removed the account. Did you simply remove it from the
Xbox or did you Fully Delete the account from Microsoft?

Unfortunately, deleting a previous account would not have freed up the use of the gamertag as once that name is recognized within the system, our servers will remember that the name has previously existed.

It is recommended to try variants of the name if interested in the gamertag itself, but we apologize in not being able to provide you that specific name for your account.
