    There is a person with the gamertag “Gobl1n” who has been inactive for 7 years, they have only played two games over 7 years ago. Ive been dying to get this gamertag for a while, when will their account be deactivated or my ability to snag the gamertag? (I do not want a gamertag with a number/suffix after it

    There's no way to know when a gamertag will be freed up. Since the system is used on multiple Microsoft services, it's possible they could be using the account elsewhere.

    i was lucky to get my gamertag before the 360 launched, most names i can imagine will be gone. but they can't delete a gamertag if it still has an email attached to it or there is purchased content on the account, so it will take a while to clear the old
    unused tags.

    Xbox live wasn't around in 2000/01.

    Anyway,if it says your old tag is taken then it's taken.If it was unused then it was reset when they recycled all unused xbox gamertags a few years ago.
