Old promo code

I'm going to try to be as civil as possible with this, but I may get annoyed.

I had a promo code that I got a while back that I forgot about until recently. When I tried using it, it gave me a Status Code that isn't in the system (for some reason). "Chatted" with someone online saying because it was an old offer that has since expired,
that I need to speak to the promotions team about.

I didn't know the offer had an expiration date because I didn't read the whole email. Also, I didn't know I could have redeemed it through other means than the XBox directly.

My main concern is whether or not I'm SOL on the gift card the promo code was for or not?
