Old Gamer tag taken by unused account

I recently changed my gamer tag and after I changed it I was going to use my second account to store my old gamer tag but someone else took it. I know the account that took it is unused as it's has been used less than half a dozen times with less than
200 gamerscore and I know that the person that has the account only uses it to get free stuff in games . Is there anyway I can appeal to xbox to be able to get my old gamer tag back?

Its not your old tag it is their current tag. You lost all rights to it when you changed from it

Hello!

Unfortunately if they are using the gamertag, even casually, it would be theirs unless they change it or go inactive for several years. It's possible they don't have gold and only use their account for playing games offline, watch Netflix, etc. in which case
it's an active Xbox Live account and would not get freed up.

Hi there as mentioned perviously by other ambassadors sadly it wont be possible to obtain the gamertag you once had, the way this works is the person has to give up that account so it can go back into the available gamer tag pool so others can choose what
they want to be called by other gamers.

Until it is given up by the old user and put back into the server there is no way to obtain it again i do apologise for this.

Hi Eval Fiend,

Unfortunately there is nothing that you can do to resolve this issue. The only way for it to be sorted is if the account is not active for 5 years.
