Old Forza Horizon 5 account not loading when game downloaded on steam

When the game first came out a while ago, me and my friends all got the 3 month free trial of the xbox game pass.

With this pass we started playing forza horizon 5, me included ofcourse.

But now I have bought the game on steam (where I like to keep as many games as possible as it makes them easier to manage), thinking I can link my old save to my steam account, and I have been reading everywhere that it shouldnt be a problem, but the old save is not loading. The game does recognise my old achievements, but it does not load any other progress I have made in the time I have played it before.

Things I have made sure to do

1. Logged in to the same account, with no changes made to is since quitting the game before
   
2. I have played through the intro (I believe)
