Okay, so...I need some help with my xbox one S and reddit ain't much help.

Basically, ever since February 28th, 2021, i've had to factory reset my xbox every few days because something would go wrong. I don't know why this is happening, but it's pissing me off pretty bad.

The reason it happened today was because today's update broke while I was updating it. It refused to try and update the entire Xbox once it got to the third stage in updating.

Before that the xbox would be slow and then refuse to actually play any games, which, all my games are digital, and when i hard reset it, it would just non stop give me the green screen of death unless i factory reset the damn thing.

I literally never had a problem with this until february 28th, and now it's like it happens every other day. Like this is the tenth time i've had to do this since february. And i'm pretty sure i'm no longer game sharing with my friend because of it even though i chose to keep settings, yet some of his games are still on my xbox and playable.

Failing to sync sounds like you're losing your network connection which is not good especially when doing a system update.

Are you using wired ethernet cable or WiFi (wireless) to connect your console to your network hardware?

Wired. but i'm using an old xbox 360 ethernet cord for it, which has never given me problems in the last 10 years.

Hell, the actual xbox itself is like 2 years old.

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Xbox Forum support. I am sorry to know about the console situation; However, I believe your console might need just a system refresh to perform the system update successfully. I would like you to go through the following steps to perform a quick power cycle.

I invite you to perform a quick power cycle by turning off the console and then unplugging all the cables. After 2 to 3 minutes, re-plug them back again, then restart your console.

If you are still getting the same issue, I would like you please to kindly follow the instructions below to physically reset your console:

- Turn off the console unplug all the cables then re-plug them back again.

- Since the console is an all digital one, click on the "Bind" button, after 10 seconds click the home "X" button just once without letting go of the button. Throughout the whole process you will hear two beep sounds and end up with a troubleshooting page. On your screen. You will need to select the "Reset this Xbox" option and choose "Reset and keep my games and apps".

Note =>The "Reset and Keep my Games and Apps" option will not cause losing your games, but please be aware that you need to be completely aware of the email address as well as the password of your account before going for it because it will require you to sign in to the account.

In case all previously mentioned troubleshooting steps weren't helpful, the next solution would be to perform an offline system update. In the link below you will be directed to everything you need to know about the offline update and how to run it.

Hm...How would I go about dealing with the internal HDD without breaking anything?

Have you tried disconnecting the external drive while you factory refresh the console?

Have you unchecked the box in Settings>General>Power mode & startup>When xbox is off turn off storage?

I seem to recall there was an issue with external drives and this setting.
