Usually when codes do not work you are referred to check with the place of purchase. Noe due to the age of the purchase this may not be possible, I would recommend contacting Xbox Billing and ask if they can verify the code as being used or not.

What type of error message does he get when he puts the code in?

Not active? This would mean the store that you purchased it from did not activate the card and you would need to talk to them about activating the card.



Something went wrong trying in a bit might help? This normally means that he has a past due subscription that he needs to take care of first before he would be able to enter the card in.

Or

He has a current subscription that the auto renew is turned off of and needs to either turn it back on and input the card or needs to wait for that current subscription to run out to put the card information in.

Either way he can sign into his account at account.microsoft.com/services and it would tell him his subscription is past due or if his current subscriptions auto renew is off and he can turn it on from there if he does not want to wait for the current one
to expire to put that code in.

I cant sign on to x-boxlive. I don't think it is a connection problem because I can't upgrade from a usb drive or a cdr either.
