I need oil. What are some good things, places, etc to farm it?

At the end of the day its a liquid, if it comes in contact with the circuits its unlikely to end well, if you just lubricate the area needed it will be fine, any lubricant will do, veg oil dabbed on with a finger should do.

 

Controller Drift Ultimate Solution

It seems controller drfiting is an issue. I fixed mine pretty good. Get to the modules and get some gun / rod and reel oil, the blue looking oil. I put 4 drops one on each side of the stick, get some oil in the module and you will notice the stick moves
further with the cover off, then make semi circles no matter what even if it feels like it's grinding plastic, then full circles. Do that for a while. Work it in and get oil all in it cleaning it and lubricating it. Don't use mineral oil or Remington Teflon
oil it will evaporate and don't use motor oil. Your controller will no longer drift.

 

You can make cutting fluid at your chem station and that will give you oil.

There are a few Mr. Handy fuel canisters just outside the Super Duper Mart.

Also I like going to Hardware Town because there are a bunch of paint cans there.

You can also produce lots of purified water and buy shipments of it from Trashcan Carla who is in Sanctuary quite a bit, and of course from other vendors.

oil cans, paint tins, check kitchens for cooking oil, there is a bunch of Mr. Handy fuel @ Greygarden. Loot, loot then loot some more. Leave no stone unturned, I'm amazed at what good stuff I have found in toilet bowls

 

Put multiple water purifiers everywhere you can, collect the purified water and sell it; plenty of caps to buy oil, etc.. I'm level 56(?), went to each settlement and picked up the water...BOOM! 12,000 caps in about 10 minutes. Not to mention I've got about
400 purified waters stashed at Home Plate for a rainy day.

 

Trashcan Carla ..opps very early in the game I shook her down for caps. She won't talk to be anymore.

But thanks for the other stuff guys. Now if I can remember where I left one weapon with the never ending magazine.

 

Paint Cans and collect every oil can you find.

 

Buy a shipment of oil and play fetch with the dog... a few times.
