I agree with most here.

It's not about status it's just a social feature. When I get a sub for sub request on YouTube, or a social game request on Facebook, or invited for coffee at a Starbucks... I can either accept and sub back, join the game, or go for coffee... or not subscribe,
block game requests, and refuse to go for coffee. Heh.

"Pfft. Starbucks? Why? Do you want people to see you in there or something? Is it like a status thing?"

"Nope. S'just coffee [followers/subscribers/social gaming/achievements] dude."

As Owen said, stop worrying about what other people are doing, and avert your sensitive eyes. All the options you need to mitigate spam and social requests exist already -- features don't have to be removed or nerfed just because you don't use them. lol

Skip the Starbucks coffee for 2 months and you've got the money.

Logos aren't representative of how a term is used on paper, though. A lot of logos use all caps in their text. It's a way of popping out.

Starbucks Coffee, for instance. On the logo, it's STARBUCKS COFFEE. If you type it out like that, I would lol.

Some other examples include: Burger King, Walt Disney Pictures, Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, Showtime, Taco Bell, Lamborghini, and others.

I wouldn't complain about their one-off fee if it wasn't a fee nobody else charged. I pay for coffee at Starbucks because coffee is a product that comes at a price no matter where
you get it (except maybe at an AA meeting). Gold is an extra fee for something (the basic ability to play online) that is not charged for anywhere else or by anyone else. It is also a fee that was
supposed to eliminate the (generally monthly) charge for playing individual games. That was one of the "Golden" promises (lies) that have been somehow forgotten. I'm not paying Microsoft (of all companies) for the privelage to pay someone else
for something. Gold is an unheard of cover charge & nothing else.
