    Offline Save Data..

    Hi All

First post here but just wanted to see if anyone has had this same issue. Basically, I took my Xbox One to a friends house last night and played through Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes on the Hard difficulty, which was about 4hours or so gameplay. Whilst
playing, the console wasn't connected to the internet, but I had read about this before and was under the impression as soon as it was back online everything would sync. Problem is, when I connected back to the internet, the game synced and I lost all of my
progress from last night! I contacted Xbox Support and they told me the cloud can't recognize offline play and so just syncs to the last save data that is on the cloud.

Is this true? If so it's ridiculous

    Cheers

    :)

  2. Save data for Monster hunter world is missing.

    Hi,

Sometimes pressing on Use offline will get the save data because it saves both locally and in the cloud.

Offline Game Saves Now Hidden Behind the Gold Paywall?

I have no idea what it could have been. What was the issue exactly? I tried resuming while both connected to online, and offline. And again, the game was retrieving data for my online and offline stats and unlocks... and my back up save data on my local drive was intact. I'm not insinuating anything. This is a real live account that happened about a week ago and I have no clue why.

    Offline Save Data..

I would have thought you would have got a message about the data on your hard drive being different to the cloud?

That's what usually happens to me if the cloud data doesn't match whats on the hard drive.

Anyway does the xbox one keep time when you disconnect the power?

If not then your saves might have appeared older to the clouds when you connected back to Live causing them to be overwritten.

The system clock on the 360 resets when you disconnect the power for 10 mins meaning if you are not online games can get confused because saves appear to be from 2005. Maybe there is something similar going on with the xbox one?

Whatever the cause there will be no way to get your progress back now and yes I agree it's ridiculous.

Hi, sorry for the very late reply I didn't even realise anyone had commented!

You would think so but when I loaded the game it just said syncing data, I thought oh good it will be syncing the most upto date data on the hard drive to the cloud, but it did the opposite and updated the HDD data to what was on the cloud!

Could be something to do with turning it off but I would have thought it had something to keep the time like a battery on the motherboard?

I tried contacting Xbox Support about it and was told by the guy that this was normal and you can't save data when playing offline without it being lost when you connect back to the internet. I find this very hard to believe, surely Microsoft wouldn't be
that stupid? When they reversed the always online malarkey it should stop an issue like this?

    Cheers

I think the support agent was wrong.

My guess is it might be a time issue.

As the xbox was originally designed to be online only i'm guessing it may not have an internal battery to keep time.

If that is the case the offline saves on your hard drive would have appeared older than the ones in the cloud causing them to be overwritten.

I haven't tested this myself so don't know if there is an internal battery or not.

But I know the 360 never had one and it would cause problems with some games loading the wrong saves because the newer offline saves appeared older than the ones made online.

    Just did some testing.

I disconnected the power for an hour as well as disconnecting the Ethernet cable so it can't connect to the internet.

Then reconnected the power and switched on.

The system time is now 17:01 and the date is 25 May 2013

So all your offline saves would have had this date which is why they were replaced by the saves in the cloud

Next time you want to use the console offline it is essential that you go into the settings app then select system then make sure the time and date is correct. Otherwise when you reconnect the cloud saves will overwrite the offline saves because they will
    be dated 25 May 2013

    Offline Save Data..

Thanks for looking into that buddy I'll give it a go next time I play offline. I actually did play offline yesterday but tethered the Xbox to my iPhone, which I'm hoping allowed the game to be saved to the cloud, I'll soon find out though. Thanks again.

    Save Data Offline

The one way to store your saves Offline is to set your XBOX Console to"Offline" in the network Settings page. With your Console set to "Offline", your saves will be stored on the Built-in HDD or The Drive yout want to have your saves to be put on. There
will be some time when your HDD is full, then you will get a message to free up space .

As soon as you go online again, all your saves will be synced to the cloud.

But be aware even if you will mangae to get all your games saved to an external Drive, you won't be able to access them.

    Save Data Offline

That sounds like the information I was familiar with. And everything I’ve read recently says there’s no limit on cloud storage, except for the above mentioned official support article. And I assume if the official documentation is that there’s a limit
then there must be a limit. Now, I don’t actually want to stop using cloud storage, I’m only doing this to attempt to fix a problem and if there is a limit on cloud storage then that could be part of the problem. The article says I can choose to “keep playing
without saving to the cloud”, which suggests there’s some way to choose to do so. Is that just some sort of prompt I’ll get when it’s full or is there a way to choose to not use cloud storage before it’s full?
