offline isssue with a relatives console

my dad has an xbox one but does not have access to the internet.So I update his console at my house then he goes back to his to play
offline.IS it possible for him to get an error wile launching a game saying he needs an update even if his console is not connected to the internet at his house ? how is this possible?
he says it just randomly says error but it makes no sense to me as he needs my internet to update ? and obviously if hes not connecting to the internet anywhere else then his machine should be in the state/version it last updates to until next time it reconnects
online or can the xbox one mandatory update your machine even if you don't connect to the internet any insight would be greatly appreciated

also I didn't mention he plays offline with no issues then he claims it just randomly error codes when he launches a game how is this possible ? if hes not connecting to the internet at his house ?

Thanks for reaching out to the forums. We understand you have question regarding offline play. Yes this can happen if didn't go offline properly. When going offline after you update a game or the console and he about to go home or done with the console.
Go to settings>general>network settings>select go offline. This needs to be done while connected to internet.

power cycling your Xbox One and see if that resolves the isssue.

Have you tried to power cycle your console?

Have you a stable (an fast) internet connection?

If you are using an external HDD, have you checked that is 100% working?

If you are relatively sure that something is wrong with your latest update, you can try an offline update to reset your console.
