Offline gameplay

My cousin bought an Xbox 1 for his son, he asked about needing internet but was told only to setup and update by the retailer. I helped him get it set up and updated but he has no internet, can he play offline? I read what is posted on the Xbox website but
it did not fix, the games are Watchdogs 2 and WWE 2K16

Greetings! I do understand your frustrations, and I apologize for the inconvenience. However, I want to clarify that this functionality is by design. Just to expound, a connection to LIVE is required in order to determine if content has been deemed inappropriate
and removed from the service. You can read more about this in our support article on the subject titled: 'When you try to start an Xbox LIVE Indie Game, you receive the error message: "You
must be connected to Xbox LIVE to play this game" '

Indie games have never had the ability to be played offline. It has to do with the differences in how they are developed.

I regret to say that the answer for offline play is Yes..., and No. The retailer was correct, as far as Microsoft is concerned, once you have your Xbox Live account, setup the Xbox One and did the "Day One" update, you should be good-to-go. However, some
game publishers require internet service connection regardless if you are playing from the disc or your "Using Xbox One offline" settings. In spite of those
kinds of limitations, I would still recommended even basic internet service. Having the Xbox online makes sure you get updates and provides backup for things like game save data and user profiles.
