Offline Account Will Not Promote to Xbox Live for Child

Child has been playing with an offline Xbox account and has amassed a lot of stuff. I have a separate account that is Xbox Live and tied to my outlook.com address.

I created a new outlook.com address for the child, went through the parental confirmation.

I then logged on as the child to Xbox Live web site, an Xbox account was created.

On the Xbox, I tried to associate the offline account with the new email address and got an error "this is associated with an Xbox account already".

I created another outlook.com address for the child, went through the parental confirmation.

I then logged on as the child to the Xbox, tried to associate the offline account to the new outlook.com account and got an error that sign-up must be done on the web site. However, I know that if I create an Xbox account on the web site again, then the
offline account on the Xbox will be blocked again from associating.

This is very frustrating. Help!

To promote a child account to an adult account

Sign in to Xbox Live by using the account that you want to change.

Go to Settings, and then select Account.

Select Promote Child Account.

As you may be aware Xbox LIVE determines whether an account is a child account or an adult account based on the age of the account owner. Account owners who are younger than 18 are given child accounts in the United States.

For this reason you need to have access to the parental account in order to promote a child account to an adult account. This promotion removes the Family Settings and Xbox LIVE restrictions:

To promote a child account to an adult account

Sign in to Xbox LIVE by using the account that you want to change.

Go to Settings, and then select Account.

Select Promote Child Account.

It's no longer possible to create a child account on the console. When you create a new account on the website you can download it to the console, but there is no way to merge accounts or transfer anything from one account to another.

At first the solution you posted was confusing but I get it now. In short:

There is no possible way to associate a child account to an offline account.

It's really BS. I've been raging against MS all day and but I'm too tired to do it right now. I would literally drive to the store right now and buy a PS4 if my son wasn't just wanting an account to play Minecraft with his friends. As soon as he's bored
with that game, I'm smashing the 360 into tiny pieces and buying him a PS4. Goodbye Microsoft. I don't use your computers and this is the last product that will be in my household. Peace.
