Offline Account to Xbox Live

I won't get back to answer anything tonight so I'll try to lay everything out as clear as I can. I know this topic seems to have been done to death but nothing I have read so far has helped me.

I have Xbox 360 Arcade. I have never gone online with it til now so I have an offline only gamertag that I have used for the last several years. I did make MS account but it set me up with an auto gamertag that I don't want, don't use. I have changed the
MS account to an email I don't want to use for my 360 and deleted the email I do want to use (with my 360 gamertag) from that MS account, just in case. So I can (hopefully) make a new MS account to go with my offline gamertag?

I have read through how to promote my offline account to an Xbox live one. However, my seemingly one obstacle on doing this is my profile selection under settings is grayed out. I have even checked my gamertag availability and it is not in use. I have no
idea what else to do. ???

I just did this today with my offline partners profile which was on my own Gold account (360 )

You need to use a 24hr, 2 day, 7day pass and create an xbox live account for each of them, then port them across

Completely 100% wrong!

Just deleted my profile off my xbox one, then downloaded my brothers profile ( as if he was the potential buyer). The two games worked perfect under his account both online and offline.

Just checking back in quick to say after countless attempts and more than four hours of working at it, I did finally get it online under a new account. Quite a pain in the butt. Then it still gave me a new gamertag name (ARGH!) but luckily you have the free
change.

Hi there,

only one xbox live account can be connected to a specific Microsoft Account, so if you want to 'upgrade' an offline profile to a xbox live account you will need to use a Microsoft Account that doesn't have an xbox live account already connected.

So if you don't have an Microsoft Account without an Xbox live account connected you will need to create a new Microsoft Account if you want to 'upgrade' that offline profile.

I don't think that is possible (the hacking part) , could someone else used that console at your place and linked that offline account to a Windows live I'd (Microsoft Account) because doing that might/will change the account name, when the account name
is a unique I'd on the Xbox Live network.

For example an offline account with the name 'John' will need a different name when connecting it to Xbox Live and there are generating names like the one you mentioned for new Xbox Live accounts.

Linking the offline account to Xbox Live is likely the cause of that name change etc.

I created an offline account when I first got my xbox and I just tried to turn it into an xbox live account, but when I was trying to turn my offline account into a live account it turned another person's offline account into a live account and not mine.
Without knowing this, I used my gift card for a membership onto their account. Now they have an xbox live gold membership, not me. I want to know if I can change it to where I have the xbox live gold membership, and not them.

If they played it while offline, nothing would happen to your account unless they signed into Xbox Live on that console with that profile. There is no way for the account to update unless that console that played it offline signed in into Xbox Live.
