It appears that the controller is an officially licensed controller, but it isn't an official Xbox One controller. Bethesda has some details on the controller's features over on

their store here, which include audio control through the D-Pad.

For official Xbox One controllers, audio control is either through the Stereo Headset Adapter or through the volume mixer in settings

Third party headset makers have no choice but to wait until Microsoft releases the Headset Adaptor which suits the way in which this new audio technology is distributed to the mass populace. Microsoft are demanding everyone buys a new headset with audio
adaptor bundled i.e. headphones that are tuned to provide the highest quality audio from the Xbox One™ Audio Adapter. The Titanfall Ear Force Atlas Official Gaming Headset, Ear Force XO7 and Ear Force XO4 have been pushed back to March 7, 2014 at Amazon. There
is NO way we are getting Dolby Digital 5.1 over optical in the near future as it has and always been I suspect that Microsoft would have it any other way.

Yes, he's got a special headset that works for audio but can't get the mic working. The Official XBox Headset that came with his XBox ONE has a headset that provides working audio and will allow him to speak to his Team mates. So I've provided a
solution that works and you haven't. Az

If you find yourself in need for a change, You may want to look into the Stereo Headset from Microsoft, a number of Gaming Audio companies such as Turtle Beach are also offering Higher end Audio headsets specifically made for the Xbox One. I'm not sure if
the Controller Adapter is going to be identical, but it may be worth looking up!
