Odd update problem

Hi all, Ever since the August update I have to keep downloading it. I d/l it and it updates fine then a week or so later I will check the system tab in settings and it says console update is available and you guessed it, it is the same August update. This
has been happening on a weekly basis. The only thing I can think of is the hard drive is on the way out? I am not in the preview progam. I have posted on the support forum, but thought I would post here in case anyone had any ideas.

oh well and that is screwed up that it is a problem with there system but u have to pay to fix it. i guess i will just deal with i geuss

There was a post a while back where someone reported same issue. A complete factory reset solved it for them but before doing that why not request a call from Xbox Support, maybe it's something simple and quick they could sort out.

OP, yes, please do keep us posted on what you find out. I've been having the same thing happen. Got so tired of waiting for it to DL, that I put my console in instant on mode. Maybe a full factory reset will do the trick, but I'm looking for a guinea pig
to verify it first. lol Hopefully someone will find out if the option to reset and "keep games" is enough to fix it.

 

I'd give Xbox Support a call before going down the factory reset road as a quick call might save a lot of hassle plus it might not be same issue causing it as to what I've read before.

Quick search on Google and a few have had this problem. One person solved it by deleting GT only, performing a full power cycle ( hold button until console shuts down, unplugging power lead, wait 5 minutes then turn back on ) then recovering GT.

I'd try thus first as well before factory reset.

Thanks for the replies. The odd thing is it only seems to happen if I don't go on console for a few days. If I am on it every evening there is no update. Wont be able to get on till end of week. so will check then to see if its asking me to update again.
I shall then d/l the update again and then try what Lofty said. If that doesn't work I shall have to phone support.

Shall post back my results when I can.

A factory reset isn't as bad as it used to be now as you don't have to delete all your games from the hard drive.

 

I'm on every day and it made no difference. Every week(ish) mine would update again. I checked last night just to see (since I wouldn't know after switching to instant on) and yep, it had updated again. I went ahead with a factory reset and like Daft said.
It really wasn't bad at all. Kept games and apps, it remembered most of my settings after DLing my profile. The whole thing didn't take much more than 30 mins. if it took that long. Guess we'll see if it worked, eventually.
