    I just got Xbox live gold recently and when i went on my xbox to see if it worked it said it was connected to xbox live. I went on MVC3 online and it looked liked no-one was online so i went to a different game online and it also didn't work, So i went
    back to test xbox live connection and on the side it said service alert and told me to go to https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live-status?icid=furl_servicealerts. I went and it said the Xbox live service was active, up and running so i went back on my xbox
    and got the same alert. If somebody could help it would be appreciated.

    I would recommend try shutting off your Xbox and rebooting it as it usually solves some issues.

    If you go into your console settings in the power options there is a full shut down option. It will do a proper power cycle of your console.

    Go into the network settings and run a test. It may be an issue with NAT where some parts of the service are working and others are not able to get through.

    I have an Xbox One X downstairs and my One S Is upstairs as a media player. Every now and then if I shut off the X and go upstairs and turn on the S it won't quite grab on to live without a restart. As others said, just a restart, odds are good you are
    okay.
